I cut it right at the hole (hex-pin)

It's not weak, it can take some stress. I never really put it to the hard test, just had it installed for some playing.
But it developped NO slip or nothing, it's still going strong. Sometimes I still put it in.

I might have to try that on my extended DVO when i get my chassis back.
