What about Parallel?

Hello,

Ok, my current dilemma has to do with runtime and battery size. Both of my trucks, the one I have (My E-CRT) and the one I will have soon (E-Revo) use TWO battery packs. Neither at present can fit the 6000mAh packs which are usually 165mm long. To date I've been using smaller packs and just waiting for someone to come up with a good alternative, then it hit me, what about using smaller capacity 4s packs and running them in parallel!

Neu makes a 4s 3200 pack. It's 25c so that gives up 80 amps, now what if I wired them in parallel rather than series like I do now with my 2s packs, that would give me one 4s 6400 pack with 160 amps!

Anything wrong with this idea? Best part is that the pack will fit inside the battery bays of the E-Revo...tell me what's wrong with this idea?

Sounds good to me too. I would charge them in parallel too then, but use seperate balancers...

Would 4s 3200 not be too tall? Seems to me the E-Revo chassis might not be to accept the height of 4s 3200.

I've spoken with Tim Roberts (of traxxas race fame) who tells me the bays are 29mm tall.

These Neu 3200's are 28mm tall...it should fit, barely.

Any side effects, will it deliver 160amps or is there some loss when doing something like this/using smaller capacity individual cells?

Yup. You'd have a 4s2p 6400mAh 160A pack. Losses due to wiring will be negligable. It will definitely work as you hope, so long as you can fit the packs in there.

Been a few months, I'm still thinking about this whole Parallel idea...Does anyone have a photo of a Deans Parallel adapter? 1 Female end to two male ends...

Is anyone here running two 4s packs in Parallel on any of their E-MT's or E-1/8ths?

One can actually make those. I've had mine for a few years now.

Now that looks slick (the little three connector in one thing...) If it's durable enough I think I'd go with that cordless option...

I always run my packs in series as I've personally found more uses for smaller capacity high voltage packs than larger capacity lower voltage packs.
Then again, I've always run higher voltage than most.

Did you mean parallel?

Small capacity and high voltage are what parallel is all about.

Large capacity and low voltage are where seres comes into play...

That's backwards. Cells hooked +-+-+-+-+- are in series. Higher voltage , same capacity.
