Talking 1515 neu motor question - 09.10.2008, 05:07 PM

ok can any one tell me what would be best a finned 1515/2.5d
or the smooth version
is there any diffrence in the way they keep cool
or does the fins make no diffrence
i do have a finned type useing on a old emaxx type g/box and it makes it difficult to lean the motor over to use a smaller pinion

How hot is it where you live? If it's not to hot the smooth might be nice for more gearing options. I live in alaska and the summers are about 70deg not very hot at all so the smooths are appealing to me since I like using the smaller 13-14-15 tooth pinions. Plus if you do get a smooth and it runs a little warm toss a fan cooled heatsink on it. Smooth cans are real nice!

lol nah the fins are just there to look pretty .

Nah but seriously, same idea as adding a heatsink, except a heatsink will be much less efficient - you can improve the efficiency of a heatsink by using some heat transfer compound like what they use for cpu heatsinks and stuff, it makes a huge difference. For example my feigao with RCM heatsink, without thermal paste the heatsink stayed cool while the motor was cooking. Add a bit of paste and the whole motor and heatsink are just warm.
