Yet another E-Slayer… - 09.16.2008, 07:16 PM

What’s the big deal with all these Slayer conversations anyway? Is this little rig supposed to be a new revolutionary change for 1/10th scale 4x4 trucks or something?

Figured I’d find out first hand

Presently set up with:
Nue 1512/2.5/DF
Mamba Max (w/fan & cap)
Polyquest 4S (5000MaH)
Slayer tranny 2nd gear lockout (E-brakes & reverse)
RCM mount, 17/36 gearing
Tekno ESC, batt, and receiver mounts

So my overall assessment so far isn’t very good. The truck is quick and all, but then again pretty much any rig with a Nue motor, quality pack, and decent ESC will be. The suspension and handling performance is down right terrible. I’m no pro driver and I bash hard, but this little rig won’t be lasting very long unless I change something with the suspension. The narrow wheelbase, high COG, and poor weight balance transfer is making for some terrible spills everytime out.

So I have a video to prove it. This is an example of a normal everyday bash with this little rig. As you can see from this video; the truck is not going to last long at this pace. And for extra credit, can anybody count how many times it completes a full rotation during this few minute video? Cuz I lost count after the first 60 seconds

Did you glue buttered toast face down on the bottom of that thing or something? I've never seen anyone have so many wipeouts land shiny side up. :)

Loved it when it hit the camera, too...

what would happen if you put some extended hex adaptors on there with a set of offset tires?

that would make it much wider.

That is one quick truck...I agree w/t-maxxracer32 on trying to widen it a bit for more stability.

That was a great vid! I kept laughing at how many times you rolled it and landed on the wheels. I was going to do a Slayer conversion but after seeing this I'm having second thoughts. Does anybody know if the nitro slayer handles this poorly?

IMO it will reeally handle differently compared to our Revo and Maxx or buggy....need a different driving style

but seriously...converted buggy to corr truck handles better..IIRC BrianG has one and another forum member...my e-slayer will have a secret weapon ....im crossing my finger that will be better...

Looks great, any chance you could get a pic of how you attached the side nerf gaurd to the battery tray area? Maybe a shot of the underside of the truck on the battery side?

Looks like alot of fun. Still need to finish my slayer up. I will be running buggy badlands on mine, and after watching the video I may incorporate a gyro to keep it stable...

I have a spare hpi d-box gyro somewhere... May have to give it a try. I will say that the stock tires on my slash suck, so the slayer tires will be no better. I am using the ofna 17mm hub adapters and ofna 5spoke white wheels. That combo seems to be almost identical to the stock track width. Body fits perfectly too.

Killer fast! nice build. What kv is that motor? 1512/2.5d. Lincpimp: I'm trying a gyro in mine. It helps.

Looks good. Very clean install.

Maybe a little stiffer suspension and swaybars will help a bit with the tumble and roll thing its doing.

I was considering one of these... but I now I think I will wait a bit until the verdict is in on them. That looked like some real slpooy handling. It was nice that it seemed to find the wheels most of the time, but I prefer something that just stays on the wheels.

Maybe the AE one will be better. I'm sure the RC8 motor mount will just drop into that one.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

I know they are completely different trucks, but the same thing happened to me when I added the shock spacers in my 50mph slash. Once I took them out the truck didnt roll over as much. I thought my slash would also be more stable than it is also but that wasnt the case. I would vote for softer springs.

So I have some suspension parts coming; different weight springs (softer in front, heavier in rear), sway-bar kit, and some buggy tires/wheels. I already have some 17mm adapters but they’re not extended. I wouldn’t mind lowering it too. I guess I could use some old rod & ball-ends I have kicking around to test and change the lengths of the pushrods.

It’s the stock nerf-bar that I cut down & notched to mate with the tray, then just super glued. It’s temporary as I ordered a replacement set of nerf-bars and plan to use the left-side bar on the batt-tray side. The left-bar has the forward mounting position, and a rear eyelet mount that you can simply run a bolt/nut through the batt-tray to secure. They’re a whopping $4 bucks for the set.

Ok guys I got my Slayer today and the drivetrain has some binding.I pulled the trans and it seems to be the front and rear diffs. The front and rear diffs make a clicking sound. This is my 1st Traxxas I have never had a RTR just kits. The diffs in my other Buggies/Truggies have allways been smooth. Is this normal.Do they just need to be broken in?I realy dont want to continue the conversion until I know this is ok.
