I did that
once (note the key word there). I ground up 4 smaller engines and tried to pack them into a cardboard tube to make a larger engine. When I ignited it, it just exploded. I was at a safe distance and so unharmed by the shockwave that blew the wing off of the Radio Shack RC car that I had attached the engine to. Those are the heavy, ABS plastic wings, so it was quite a blast.
