Losi 8ight Front Rear DIfferential - 10.02.2008, 09:46 PM

Is there a difference between the front and rear differential on the Losi eight. I lost the rear differential on mine and was looking on ebay and normally you see differentials listed as front/rear but the ones I am finding for the eight are Front differential or Rear differential. Not both.

THanks for the help.

I found on a-main that for ring gears are different. What makes them different or not swappable?

The rear diff's pinion gear is on the outside of the diff, and the front diff's pinion gear is on the inside. This is due to Losi's "centrally mounted engine" layout.

I had remembered Losi pushed the rear diff pinion out like that, but I couldn't recall what they did with the front diff pinion - so I looked it up. Does Losi actually use different ring gears front and rear? Or do they just flip the front ring gear and stick it in the rear?

I've never had the the eight apart yet. I don't know if they can be flipped. When I looked for parts, A-main had the two ring gears listed as seperate part numbers. I couldn't see the difference until reading you post. It does look like you said as the rear has the teeth on the top of the ring gear. The front has the teeth on the bottom of the ring gear. Without the gears on the top and the bottom of the ring gear it doesn't look like they could be flipped or interchanged.

No from the pics the ring gear is at least front and rear - I suspect the rest is interchangeable.

ya rest is the same.. just swap the gear, you'll want to pull it appart and change the wt of the oil anyway.
