HV 6.5 pro issues? -
10.10.2008, 12:42 AM
Im having this random shut down issues with the HV 6.5 pro..and emailed novak for enlightenment..this was the reply.
Hello Sir,
I see, I think I just realized the issue.
The instruction manuals for the HV Pro has a Mistake. Particularly with the Lipo Modes. It’s backwards.
It Says: One Blink is ON, two is OFF. THIS IS WRONG.
IT operates as One Blink is OFF, two Blinks is ON.
So most folks that have pointed out this issue are simply following our “wrong instructions”.
Thank you for your email. If we've missed any of your questions please let us know.

What brand lipo's are you using and what are their specs? If the batteries can't hold voltage under load this is probably what is causing your problem.

My brother in law just sent his back in with the same issue - but he was running Nimh's. BEC failures, me thinks.....

Could be the batteries, but with the latest bit of issues who knows?
I guess novaktwo should have thought twice about bashing on CC, it seems a lot of novak issues are popping up lately.

On his we ran through all sorts of different tests to determine which part was causing the issues (radio/transmitter/wiring) etc. Nothing we changed made any differnce. Tried several different batteries and nothing. I reprogrammed the lipo cutoff, and did seem to change the frequency of the cut outs/offs, but didnt completely eliminate it.
I finally stuck my older 4.5 in his truck, and it ran fine (unfortunatley for him, I removed it!!!).
I read about the potential BEC failure effects somewhere on here. I dont think the thread I was reading was necessarily in regards to a Novak system, but I'm not certain.
Come to think of it, we should hear something from them any day now.

Have you tried a different RX? IF its a spektrum RX, they use to have all sorts of problems shutting down, until sent in for updating. In any case you may also want to try a stutter stopper, or capacitor plugged into the RX so that if the voltage dips a bit low to the RX it wont shut down.
Personally I wont use anything under 5000Mah 25C in my rig, just to be safe. Since more and more PPL are jumping on Novaks HV we will see more frequent failures. As with anything electronic things will go south from time to time. But the best thing with Novak is that they have the fastest turn around time once something gets sent in.

Try buying the Novak Glitch Buster. The glitch buster is around $10.
I have the 6.5 HV Pro (e revo) with the glitch buster and it has run flawless on 6000 and 8000 lipos for well over 3 months racing hard a couple times a week.
Good luck.

yessir..i've tried everything..i have the novak glitch buster, also the spektrum voltage protector for the reciever..with the same results. I tried my 2.4 futaba rx tx..still the same. tweaked the radio for throttle control,re programmed the esc again..still the same. i even bought another set of hv pro..still the same results. my friend here ran his e revo also with the hv pro..and suddenly it just stopped..steering is good but no throttle.did everything to revive it with programming etc..nothing.he is sending his back for replacement.
i like my novaks i have 4 of them old hv's..the hv pro's are just different based on my experience.

No, this appears to be an issue with the new systems - something Novak needs to address.

Does the problems kick in instantly? Or after a period of running? After shutting down does it work again or you have to turn off and turn back on?

I have been experiencing the same issues. Random shut downs failure to start the ESC up. I have spent nearly six weeks trying different combination's of receivers, programming, receiver packs, wiring, batteries and motors.
After all of this I finally was about to give up in disgust and contact Novak for an answer or my hard earned money back then......
I unplugged the fan harness from the ESC and plugged it into my receiver auxiliary port. All my problems disappeared I have no idea why this would make such a difference unless the fans are injecting electrical noise directly into some vital component or circuit within the ESC. I do have the sensor cable and the fan cable loomed into a bundle but the only thing I have changed is where the supply to the fans plugs in.
Novaktwo may be able to ask the techs at Novak for an answer cause i sure can't see why.....

I have the same exact issues you guys are describing and bought an FM radio / receiver to see if that takes care of it and it still does it. I am just hoping its an easy fix because I like Novak a lot and have also used their electronics before for years.
Someone else told me about the fan so I guess I can try that to see if it works.

My brother in laws was replaced with a new one. Unfortunately, he didn't get any information on what they found.
