tough wheels for revo - 10.13.2008, 05:29 PM

so i have stripped 3 wheel hexes in my first week of 5s medusa 60mm 2000kv brushless i apparently need an upgrade, what is the toughest wheel hex to get besides aluminum wheels. i don't care about looks i just bash. i had aluminum hex's for the wheels that stripped, which were stock e-maxx /revo wheel/ tires.

... also how do i keep track of my posts easily. i though i posted this already and then could not find it?

I use the instant email option for this. That way I know if anyone posts in my thread.

purchase some rpm wheels. i never had one fail on me yet. they come in offsets as well if you want a wider stance. i have the rpm titans and i believe there are the rpm spiders too. they come in a variety of colors. plus rpm have their gaurantee, if it breaks, theyll replace it for free.
as for searching for your posts. what i do is go hit the search button, click on advanced search, then type in your name where it says look for post made by this person.

i thought rpm wheels were 14mm, ive read that 17mm was the brushless standard? i do like rpm products though. do rpm 14mm hold up as well as other brand17mm? hexes of course.
As for the post thanks mkrusedc i changed my settings

+1, get the ofna 17mm conversion for the revo and run 17mm wheels. You will want to use some blue loctite on the 17mm nuts, they do not have any locking ring and will come loose.

so not the 23mm hubs?
are there differences in material nylon/plastic between all the wheels?

are stock traxxas e-maxx or revo wheels plastic where rpm are nylon composite?

You have more tire/wheel options with the 17mm hubs compared to the 23mm.

Predator with OS .21TM
Supermaxx with Mach .26
Revo with OS .18TZ

is there any other negative to 23mm?
i just bash so i really just want it not to break under harsh conditions. i know i can break anything, so its all relative i am upgrading for reliability
what cant i get with 23mm wheels bigger hex's seems more reliable to me.
really, I'm just confused everyone says 17mm but 23mm is bigger and seems like it would be stronger

do different wheel hexes change the tire i can use?

Ed Zachary! I just changed my 23mm hubs out on my CRT to 17mm for this very reason.

+1 for 17mm. Pretty much get whatever you want for a wheel. Many of us here are all running the exact same thing on our REVOs though. Ofna 17mm conversion, maximizer beadlocks, and proline badlands mt tires. Great bashing combo and I was even pretty impressed with there performance on the wet, muddy track at the annual bash.

The biggest disadvantage of 23mm is the limited number of tire/wheel options compared to the 17mm. Truggies use 17mm hexes and the market is with them right now. I still have to see and LPR wheel set in 23mm.

Don't get me wrong, the 23mm allows for more surface contact and are stronger. I'm running both 23mm and 17mm and I equally like them both .

The only time I've stripped the stock 14mm hexes is when they loosened a little. Replaced them and used lock-tite on the screw (especially the left side where the wheel spin direction helps to loosen them), and never had a problem thereafter.

Get some 17mm adapters for it and some JConcepts Rulux wheels. They look good, they're cheap, and they seem to be tough so far. Running them with Monster Truck Badlands on my Muggy and so far they work really well.
