finished my lazer - 10.23.2008, 07:40 PM

well this is the one i couldnt sell so i decided to go ahead and make it like i wanted. its the RTR version with:

steel diff outdrives
ceramic balls
xray bearings through out the whole car
new spur
b44 tires on yellow kyosho wheels
sidewinder esc (from skellyo)
CC 5700 motor (from rchippie)
airtronics 94360 servo (amazing servo!!!!)
3 racing under tray (spur gear saver )
35wt in front and 40wt in the rear
using the perfex am radio and micro reciver
6cell venom 5000 nimh pack
lightning 10 "hard" wing

its geard for 32mph (to be easy on the poor nimh battery)

i just ran it for the first time on my track and i got right at 20 minutes of runtime, temps were a little high but what do you expect running 20 mins with a 5700 in a 4wd. Motor was 170, sidewinder was 160, and the nimh was 165. its 70 outside you can clearly tell the car is undergeard even on my TINY track, but i still had a little cogging here and there no doubt thanks to the crappy battery. so i ordered one of those nue hardcase 2s 5000s they had on sale for $60, that should let me gear up to about 40 and get rid of the cogging, but i have a feeling im gonna have to limit myself to about 10-15 min runs to keep the temps down no big deal 10minutes is the max i could run on racedays anyways since their is only 5 minutes of "warm up" between each race and the races are only 6minutes.

did i mention this thing drives like its on rails, fun fun car makes you feel like you know how to drive ill get a little video of it on my track maybe tomorrow or something.

who all else has a Lazer? i forgot.

nope half the crap is touching the body as is..... and ther is no way im cutting any vents, becasue these Lazers are horrible about getting junk in the spur gears so the underbody and body are closed up tight to keep all the roost out that i can. im sure if gear it up the temps will be better because i was running it full throttle or full brakes all the time around my track. lipo will be here next week so ill gear it up then and check the temps agian, i think we are going to go race a new track on saturday, pretty small tight track, should be fun.

Ross your car looks real nice. What is your timing set at ?. That could help lower temps if it is set to high .

thanks for the compliment, the setup has to be clean because the body will BARELY fit on there as is.

id honestly MUCH rather have the LS10 its 10x tougher than this little buggy and it doesnt have STUPID ball diffs.....ugh i hate ball diffs, too much maintence. I already miss my Ls10 as now i dont have anything to jump to the moon and bash around (have the slash with badlands but its not near the same as the Ls10 for jumping) and you never got back to me about the things you asked me about...i dont want you to have any trouble with it so if you need something let me know.

those stock tires are far from new they have been run for prolly 15 hours! or more. i doubt youll ever wear them out lol, those truggy komodos are ALOT newer they just look bad because there isnt enough tire to protect the rim and the wheels get beat up bad, and have to be glued.

What kind of wing is that? It looks to be hard plastic like an 8th scale but actually fits the zx-5. Is it the ones made for the crt.5?

Very nice. I have a lazer SP with a MM5700 system in it :) I run 3s and 2s in it. 2s it is a blast, geared for 45. 3s on any gearing is just stupid for anything other than speed runs.

here is mine:

I'm do for bearings, how are those xrays? link?

I have 4mm CF shock towers on it, and not in the pics are pn racing 7075 tower mounts. I got tired of snapping the stockers.
the wheels are off the cyclone 1:10 buggy, D4? i think. I forget what tires I have on it now, as they only last about 10 runs.

I've always likened the handling to an offroad capable touring car. It handles better than my tc4 did... and on 3s out runs a friends porsche 911 turbo in 0-70.

Very nice man. Ive been wanting a nice 1/10 4wd buggy for awhile. I think Im going to have to wait for tekin to distribute the X11 in america. If their under $450 I really would like to get my hands on one.

the wing is a lighting 10 wing its 6.75 inches wide the crt.5 wings are 5.5 inches wide i think, but yes it fits nicelys and is 100x better than the lexan 1/10th scale wings. im looking at trying a crt.5 wing but i dunno if itll be too narrow or not and look funny. we need to find a 6-6.25 inch wide hard wing.

my bad they are not all xray bearings... the diffs and center shaft is all on xray bearing (youll have to search each size you need on amain) and all the wheel bearings are from advantage racing, they are the inner sheilded outter sealed bearings and are about the best i have found (you obviusly put the shields to the inside and rubber to the outside.)

we actaully havent broken anyhting other than MELTing a plastic diff outdrive due to the bearing locking up and ruinng a couple spurs but we havent had any of those since we got the undertray......ill just replace as i go but for how well these stock plastic pieces are holding up i doubt ill upgrade if they break, but just replace them....plus im not really bashing this thing around and it drives so well on the track im not rough at all on it. cant wait till the lipo get here for it and i might try a vxl motor on it if i can get brad's now that he got his MM's back from castle for his b44 and lazer.... it ran GOOD in the b44 on 2s.

takedown the x11 looks cool but i couldnt spend that much i have less than 380 in this buggy, that with all the hopups, brushless, lipo and servo.
