Another CORR conversion

Ok, a few more updates. I recieved the 6061 aluminum I need to make the front bumper bracket. I already had a custom skid plate fitted, I removed it and used it as a template to make a copy, except I made it about an inch longer. I bent the new skid so that the bumper would be at the right angle to match the body. I bolted the stock Slash bumper to the extended skid and bolted the skid to the chassis.


Here are the basic parts, 3" aluminum bar stock, original skid, new extended skid and Slash bumper.

Hey guys thanks for the positive feedback. I had a chance to take it out on the track this weekend to see how it handled. The handling was great, just like a 1/8 scale buggy. The tires were a bit slippery, but it added to the CORR style driving (i.e. power slides around the turns). As I suspected the rear body mount, which was bascially the stock Slash mount didn't hold up to the heavier and faster 1/8 scale conversion and it took a beating. Since there is no longer a rear wing, when the truck flips all the impact is absorbed by the body and body mounts. The rear mount was too weak and it got mangled. I decided to replace my original design with a mount off a 1/8 truggy (Kyosho ST-RR). I am thinking about reinstalling the buggy wing mount, and modifying it to support the body from underneath, so it can help absorb some of the impact in crash. Next up, the rear bumper, nerf bars and finish painting the body.

Ok somebody was asking about the bumper mount, specfically how the top part is mounted, so here are a few more details. I already showed how the bottom is mounted to the extended skid. The top is held by a custom part I made that attaches to the sway bar mount and then is bolted to the top of the bumper. The mount is extremely strong yet flexible so it won't snap off when it gets hit. I also decided to reinstall the rear wing mount as additional brace for the body. I turned the top part of wing mount around so the angle of the wing was flat. I then cut off the winglets (tips of the wing) and added padding to the wing. When the body is on, the wing just touches the rear portion of the body, adding support and will help absorb some of the impact in a rollover.


This part bolts to the swat bar mounts. I made this from a scrap pieces of CF and aluminum bar stock.


Then it is bolted from the top.


Top of wing mount reversed to give the wing a flat angle.


Padding added to help cushion and absorb any impacts to the rear of the truck.

awesome idea using the wingmount looks liek you dont even need the other mounts but jsut the wing mounts....

have you tried it with regular buggy tires and noted weather or not the huge parasail of a body made a difference jumping or any in the handling?

Rootar, I took it out last weekend for a test run. The project wasn't finished (no bumpers, nerf bars, shocks weren't setup, gearing, etc) but I wanted to get a general feel for how it handled so I could make adjustments later. So I only ran one pack thru it. The track has been updated recently and they took out all the big jumps, so it was hard to tell how it handled in the air. But it was very fast and the two or three Slayers on the track didn't stand a chance.

Well I had some extra time today because of the Holiday so I worked on the rear bumper. I used a similar setup as the front, I made an extended skid plate and attached a Slayer rear bumper. I then bolted the skid to the chassis, made a few minor adjustments and that was basically it.

Ok another update, paint dry so I got the body finished and mounted. Just need to work on the nerf bars and fine tune the suspension.

Well I think that's it for now. I was going to mount some nerf bars but I noticed the Associated SC8 doesn't run any special nerf bars, just the regular buggy mud guards. I changed out the oil to 50wt all around, added heavier springs and the piggyback shock reservoirs. I also tried on some black rims, what do you think?

One more update, I changed out the Neu 1515/1Y for a TeknoNeu 1515/1.5Y square can motor. I added a 40mm fan to the motor can because I plan on running the truck with no cooling holes in the body. Also added MMM and a Novak transcap.
