OCM DTM19 Kaos buggy - 11.19.2008, 05:54 PM

Is this buggy a better buggy than the Hyper 7? What are the differences
in terms of strong and weak points. I have the Hyper 7 buggy now and I'll
be getting a OCM Kaos by next week. If any have experience on this, thanks
for the posts in advance. I will be running it brushless with the MMM V3, 1515 1.5d and a 5S.

I owned one of these for about a month last year. My friend needed a buggy and I sold it to him. While I had it, I noticed that it was a cross between a Mugen MBX-5 and an Xray XB8. Since there was little to no support locally, setups were hit or miss. The car felt better when we changed the shocks to the Kyosho units. I will say my friend beat on the thing and it hardly broke. If I were you, I'd be more worried about parts support. I remember they were in America, pulled out came back there was some bs going on over at RC Tech then I stopped caring. We had my buddies dialed in as best we could so the thread was useless.

Good luck converting it to electric as I am unsure if the Xray or Mugen diff mount would work. maybe post a picture and dimensions and maybe we can help on the board here.

I'm located in Des Plaines IL USA. I have the Hyper 7 MMM V3 1515 1.5D,4S and 5S lipo and a LST2 with 1527 1D, MGM 22418 ESC and 6S 8k lipo. I have
a working watercooling setup on my Lst2 to cool the 1527 motor. I like the watercooling set up but it's very hard to get a miniature pump that works good.

It will be a OCM Kaos Pro DT19 according to this guy. I think it will work
ok. I will not be racing it as I am only a basher and don't have time to
travel due to taking care of my kids busy schedule. Any info if this truck
is will take the abuse with brushless power. Thanks.

I am getting a like new roller w/out servo and motor for 125.00 due to him
loosing my other shipment for 110.00. At this point I'd take what I can get, he's also giving me a set of extra tires. It is complete with aluminum rear hub
and body so it's a good deal to me at this point. How about the control arm what buggy do they interchange? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.
Cheesecake what parts breakage do you experience when driving it in the cold?

front knuckes contact chris from holeshothobbies.com and he will have any parts you will ever need for that price its not a bad deal if the buggy is only costing 125 anything more and its not worth it imo

plastics were the same it was a issue in all of them ocm never changed the plastic compound. youcould always look into the caster buggy they are here to stay. you can buy there nitro version and convert it or buy there electric 1/8 scale buggy

I knew a team driver for OCM, on his first madden voyage with the buggy it managed to break, no, let me correct that, it shattered a rear hub carrier. I have never seen that happen on a 1/8 scale buggy before. This was off of a 3ft jump, maybe getting about 5ft or so of air. after fixing this, he managed to break the steering portion of the front upright / pivot ball carrier and replaced those with MBX5 parts. I believe another guy with an OCM buggy also broke that same front part at a race earlier in the year too, same very cold weather.

Needless to say, it didn't give a very good impression for durability with that incident. I thought the buggy appeared to handle well, similar to an MBX5R but seemed alittle more nimble.

When he and I lined up his OCM with my MBX5 that had some type R parts on it, it looked like the brushless center assembly that held the center diff and my RCPD mount would line up just right with the OCM chassis, and the battery tray was VERY close if I recall correctly.

I would say best bet is to find someone with an MBX5 and see how it lines up to the chassis, or contact rcmonster and see about getting the mbx5 mount and testing it out.

The one that I will be getting has an aluminum rear carrier, maybe for that reason. All I have to do is get the MBX front hub pivot carrier. I figure for 125.00 shipped it's a great deal. Maybe I'll get the front and rear revised control arm too. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'll get the buggy sometime this week or monday. Thanks and anymore good or bad opinion on this buggy is much appreciated. It does looks good on the aluminum components and that is why I liked it.

OCM brushless - 12.04.2008, 02:52 AM

Almost done with the brushless conversion. I made a mounting for the motor and replace the center diff mount to a Hyper 7 style and drilled two countersunk holes and buy yourself a Hyper 7 mount from RC Monster and then youre done. The bulkhead plastic sucks big time with not holding a good torque from the screw but otherwise it looks good.
