The motors are the same. However, the tranny gearing is different, thus you will need to use a different gear ratio. Do yourself a favor, go to the traxxas site, and download a copy of the 3905 owners manual. They have a gearing chart for it in there.
To go to a single servo, just go buy a high torque metal geared servo, put it in. Remove the other servo and the splitter from the reciever. Done. You will want a servo that has a minimum of 220oz-in of torque (I think that is what the stockers add up to).
