Crazy Kid Stuff!!!!! -
12.07.2008, 02:22 AM
I saw one guys short story on another thread and thought it would be cool to see what kind of crazy stuff some of us may have pulled when we were kids. When I was like 9 or 10 years old I was heavily into HO scale cars & racing (that run on a 12 volt power supply) with a bunch of my friends. Of course just like on here on RCM we were always intrigued with more power and higher speeds, and of course I was curious to see just how fast I could make an HO car go. So I disconnected the + & - wires and tried plugging them into a wall socket (120volts). I can still envision my thoughts and how flabergasted I was to see that HO motor screeming like a bat out of hell. It lasted for like 20 to 30 seconds before the natural physics of electricity showed its ugly head to me. All I remembered was hearing a loud pop and seeing a bright white flash of light. I was stunned, and blinded but managed to find my way into my bed as my mother was screeming "what the hell was that", because it blew the house main fuse and left us in the dark.
As my mom entered my room asking us what was going on of course I said I had no idea . Then we all saw the huge ten inch black circle covering the outlet and surrounding wall area , then my mom blew a fuse . I still laugh when I think of that moment of my self learning process . So whats your story . I know there must be some good ones out there. Come on share them with us.

We rarely used the front door at my house, so at christmas time the entryway made a perfect spot for the christmas tree. My parents had gone to Vegas and I was 16. Party time! I'm one of those guys that liked everybody, so it was a fairly big party. One of my sisters friends showed up that I didn't like so I told her to leave. Well, she called the cops, and I lived on a farm, so it was the county mounties that showed up. When "COPS" was yelled the scattering of minors was like cockroaches running from light. It's everyone for themselves at this point, and no evergreen was going to stand in anyones way. The christmas tree was tossed aside like a used rubber, and that sealed my fate, there was no covering this one up. The cops ended leaving quickly, as the fields surrounding my house were littered with barefoot adolescents that wern't about to give up, and I smooth talked them as best I could. We all met back up at the bowling alley, and strangely on the same night several pairs of bowling shoes went missing. My mom still gives me crap about the party that netted me all the shoes.

Well, I used to have this bb gun.I was around 13 or so.It had a bigger barrel case around the internal rifled barrel. There was about an inch difference in length. So I was playing around 1 day and set a 22 bullet down into the barrel case, and it set right on the internal barrel.I thought ,boy I could fire a bb at this and it would make it go off.I tested my hypothesis and it proved correct. You could in fact set a 22 bullet on there and fire it up in the air.So a couple weeks later me and my buddies were walking to their house through the woods with our bb guns,it was very cold and covered with snow.So I pull out a 22 shell put it in the end of my gun, point it up,and fire.Immediately I feel a stinging in my neck,I reach down and there's blood, alot of blood. So I figure that the bb bounced off the bullet and ricocheted back and hit me in the neck.Well of course I didn't want to go home and explain this,so we walk on to my buddies house.By the time I got there the blood had soaked all the way down my body to my pants, ruined shirt, but the blood had stopped. So I borrow a shirt from my buddy and call my mom to come get me.On the way home I make sure not to face her ,and she never knows anything about it. FF 3 years.Me and my sister are on the way to school. We get in a bad car accident and must be taken to the hospital for xrays and such.So we're waiting for the doctor to come in,me my sister and my mom.The doctor comes in and says no injuries, but they made a discovery in my neck.Plops the xrays up on the board, low and behold a 22 bullet is enbedded in the middle of my neck.Everything clicks together real quick, and the story comes out.I had shot myself in the neck with a 22,and thought it was a bb.The DR said it should come out,but it was so close to my major artery that he would not go in and get it.I missed killing myself by mm's.

WOW. I was thinking that if reading some of these stories maybe just one young man may learn something and keep from doing something similar, that it is worth sharing. Some people learn the hard way, and some people just end up dead trying stupid stuff like this. Some call it natures natural selection of death. Don't you meet some people and wonder just how in the hell they lived as long as they have without killing themselves by walking in front of a bus or listening to the radio in the bathtub. Still there are a lot of us who have had near death experiences growing up that porbably saved our lives indirectly.

When I was 11 my friend and I thought it would be "cool" to make a human catapult. We built the thing over the next couple of weeks and somehow my mom never found out about it. We tested it by firing watermelons and pumpkins into an open field. Worked amazingly. They flew about 220 feet. Here is the stupid part. My friend and I lived on a steep hill right next to each other, and he lived below me and had a swimming pool. The plan was that I would get into the catapult and make the ~70ft journey from my back yard to his pool. Really bad idea. We added about 20 more bungee cords for extra power. I massively overshot. I flew about 150' and landed on his roof. I was knocked unconscious and rolled off the 2 story roof onto the concrete 20' down. I don't remember anything for 5 days after that, I was in the hospital. I broke both of my legs, both arms, and nearly broke my neck in such a way that I almost died. It was a weird experience, I had 5 months of physical therapy, and I'm back to normal 10 surgeries and 4 years later...

Wow! I almost didn't believe that story, but it was too crazy to have been made up! I'm really glad you survived and were able to get back to normal. The miracle of modern medicine.
As for myself, I used to have the bad habit of jumping off of 1 story houses. My back and knees are thanking me now and for the rest of my life.
The things we do to impress people.
