I use K&S 1/4" OD tube, and tap it to 4mm:

Then I insert 4x20mm set screws with epoxy (to keep them from moving in the tube) and add Revo/Jato rod ends after the epoxy has hardened. Surprisingly I have yet to see one of these links fail, even when used for steering. These tubes can even be bent without worrying about the stress from bending (I have done up to 30 deg.).
