Feigao bearings - 12.21.2008, 07:44 PM

Yea, I know bearings in Feigao's are crap.
My question is "can you change them yourself".
I see some outlets offer to swap out bearings in new ones before they ship at extra cost, but is that a DIY job or do you need specialist equipment?

I have a 9L with grumbly bearings.... Don't fancy runing it.

How? I don't want to waste the motor by muscling it in the wrong way.........

Just tap the shaft on the work bench gently and the rear end bell will pop off.

Extract rotor with pliers.

Wow, that WAS easy LOL Thanks guys.. I'm guessing that the relatively loose fit of the end cap isn't an issue, especially now it's been off [again] ?

So, I see the old bearings are wider than the ones I have sitting here ready to go in it.

Will the bearings Mike sells be ok or are they also too narrow? The width of the bearing isn't listed on the shop..

HERE

No you need these: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...5c-yzz%235-nb2

How to Replace Both Bearings in a Feigao Motor.

You will need two things.
A wooden dowel about 1/2" wide by 4 plus inches long.
A retaining glue or ca.

The back motor plate is held in with retaining glue.

To remove the rear bearing plate (side opposite the motor shaft), You are going to have to tap the front motor shaft on something solid. This will force the back plate off. Once the backplate is off your going to have to remove the rotor. We use a pair of pliers with rubber ends, so not to damage the shaft. But it can also be pushed out. Be careful not to damage or scratch the windings at all! Once the motor is disassembled the bearings are going to need to be pressed or pushed out. The stock bearings will get ruined on the way out.

Once both bearings are out, clean up the bearing slot. Replacing the bearing on the rear plate is easy. Make sure its lined up straight and push it in. The front bearing is a bit more difficult. Lining up the bearing straight is crucial. Than use the dowel to tap the bearing in place. Than assemble the motor, using the retailing glue or ca to glue it together. Take care not to damage the wires when putting the rear plate back on.

One of Mikes Feigao Heatsinks would also help everything stay together...
