Seen that before with the temps shooting up like that. You probably have a bad winding in the motor. The stiff wires that come out the back of the motor gt broken (all it takes is a couple a couple stands in the wire to get broken and the motor will heat up liek crazy)

When you get the new motor back make sure you figure out a way to secure the wires coming out the back of the can to make sure they dont bend and vibrate while you are running. It will provent the wires from breaking. A wire can only bend so many times before it breaks. and the vibration rom running flexes the wire al llttle bit every time you hit a bump or land a jump.

As far as cost goes.. Yea half price should be about the worst.
