Spirit Of Christmas. - 12.20.2008, 09:30 AM

I think the donation was way cool and a great way of supporting a svery special project in deed. Plus I think that you are being given a great gift for Xmas this year Shaun. This is a gift from the GODS as they say. Have a great time and enjoy this special moment in time with your Dad, as we never know how long that will last. We all wish you a wonderful Christmas and a ver Happy New Year young man. Say hello to your dad from all of us here at RCM, oh and best wishes to your Mother-in-Law as well for her great support. See you in 2009.

Forward progress continues!.. - 12.27.2008, 06:17 AM

I'm sorry for not reporting in sooner, but the whole holiday thing got me side tracked!, but progress is defiantly continuing!.. Just so you know..

I’ve managed to complete the basic concept, design.. (WHO”S YOU’RE DADY!!) I love the RD Phase! (You get to redo it time and time again) until you finally get it right!..

Remember:
I need to keep it as simple at possible!. So that means I need SLOW down my MIND (IE) (TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM) I’m getting completely trashed and then figure ring out what will work at its most simplistic form.

So what do think of it so far???

Please feel free to nick pick it apart!, I need the comments on what I did wrong!.. LOL..

Thanks for your time team and Have a great New years!..

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

Looks good to me. The back seems a little short to me, u would have to be a stubby person to push someone in the chair with the push handles that low on the chair. It would be great too if u had an optional headrest for people who have limited to no neck strength to hold their head up on their own for extended periods. Also, u need some type of park break so it won't roll down hill when they stop or roll away from the table while they try to eat.

Ok so R&D continues but I think I'm close?? What you think?? Once I completed the foundation / design I can add that RCM / TDC flare to it… (I'm looking forward to this!)

FYI!
I incorporated the following into the chair today based off recommendations, comments received early today: (I'm listening and deeply appreciative of your time and comments.).

• Arm rest & helped strengthen the rear push bars (this suggestion came from my DAD!)
• Foot rest (it’s none adjustable) sorry! But I can angel it so it works as a leg rest (not allowing the legs to fall back) if that helps??
• Rear head support (is this correct??) or should I do something different??
• I also added the necessary pathway for the brake system, but I'm drawing a BLANK on how it should works??? Is this a parking brake your referring too?? Or a brake to slow it down?? Do I attempt a brake out of PVC or use other?? If other got any recommendations???

As always thank YOU ALL so much for your time and your HELP on this project!..

Have a great Day!..

Shaun.

P.S.
What else am I missing forgetting about??

P.S.S.
My WIFE wanted to make sure that ask if a 90% sitting angle with a 12% slope is acceptable!, she thinks the seat should reclaim at an angle of 7-10% (less 90%) what do you think???

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

Have To Say. - 12.28.2008, 08:03 AM

I have to say Shaun that I have admired your devotion throughout this project. Just like your R/C builds you stick to it until it is completed. I also like the way you are listening to everyones suggestions and trying to incorperate as much inginuity as possible along the way. From what I have seen this is truning out to be a nice chair. The cool thing is the flexibility that is allowed for changes anywhere along the conception and construction of your project making it easy to change directions if something new comes up. You are really doing well with this for someone who has never had to depend on a wheelchair for transportation. The project is looking very nice. If need be you could always have an alterenate setup of tires/wheels for varying mobile situations like sand, snow, gravle or whatever. Hats off to you for the effort up to now and for sticking with it even through the holiday season. Your The Man Shaun.

Actually I'm trying to build a cheapest, coolest 3rd world chair. Once it’s complete I'm going to unisef, united way, etc and see if they like and want to implement it into production.. I'm not selling it, I'm just giving it humanity!.. it’s my 09 present to the world (so to speak)..

Thanks for the encouraging words though!...

Have a great week..

Shaun.
