Need help in diagniosing a problem with an MGM -
12.26.2008, 10:42 PM
I have a 16018 MGM v.3.11 programming. I had some problems with it and sent it to mike to send to MGM. they sent it back and said it worked for them. OK, so i installed it and run it maybe a couple days, it just stopped. I tryed to reprogram it, nothing, tryed it a few more times, nada, so i put it back in the bag and meant to send it back to mike and see if he could get it to work before sending it to MGM. Over the last 8 months, I moved to another city and found it again. I decided to try it again, i got it to default, but no further. Is there a problem in this esc or is it me and the programming. Once i got to default, I tryed to synch to transmitter, but nothing.
can someone give me a direction to go to save sending it to either mike or MGM? I had pulled the middle wire and using a reciever pack for programming. I have seen no smoke or smelled no bad smells.
thanks for any help

That ESC isn't opto, is it? Pulling the red servo wire shouldn't have any effect on the programmability. But, just in case, try to program it while using the BEC to power the Rx. The Tx/Rx sync and ESC setup are seperate programming functions. You should be able to sync to different radios regardless of the "programmed" ESC settings. Are the trims set to zero? Is the channel reversed? Is your current radio compatible with the ESC? I'm just brainstorming, I have no idea why a radio wouldn't be compatible. Do you get any of the "beeping" (not to be confused with *beep*ing) error messages? Will it run at all if you just turn it on?
I hope I got you thinking. I hate seeing so many people having problems with the MGM stuff because they truly are great controllers. Good luck!

No it has a switching BEC. I would have used the BEC in the esc for programming, But the Nomadio has a lag at startup and almost lost the truck the first time i tryed. I plan to dig out an FM reciever and see if that (BEC) is my problem

Ok. I use a Futaba 3PM FM with my 16016 without any issues. BTW it has the older 2.32 firmware. That could be something to consider, also.

I tryed it on an FM setup (JR XS3/NovakXXtra) same result, no responce. On a side note, the BEC works and the servo does its job. By now i figure its beyond me and i need to send it to mike to send to MGM. thanks for the advice
