Another E-LST Build, Need Recomendations. - 01.01.2009, 09:07 PM

Alright well i got a lst2 rtr for 250$ shipped it has integ shocks too, im gonna sell the nitro stuff and convert it and need some opinions. Im On A Budget (kinda).

Motor:

KB45 8XL ( herd nothing but good things about them and there cheap.
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...hless_Inrunner

ESC:

Mamba Monster Max on 6s

Batteries:

Rhino 4900mAh 6S 22.2v 20C-30c Lipo
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...C_Lipoly_Pack#

or

ZIPPY-H 4000mAh 6S1P 25-35C Lipo
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...5C_Lipoly_Pack

Q: now will i see a big difference between the 25-35c batt apposed to the other 20C-30c? Higher Amp Better Batteries? i will be getting 2 of them.

Motor Mount:

I Dont Know Yet Need Some Opinions/ Help Making or Getting One Made.
will any of these from fd fit the kb motors?
http://www.finedesignrc.com/ct-1-8scaleparts-.asp
does the trd mount fit the kbs?

Pinions:

Again Need Some Help Here too, maybe boring out the 5mm ones, Need Some Input On Teeth Count.

Trans/ Mech Brake:

Locked 2nd Gear? And use mech brakes or not? i would like to put The Lipo in the Servo spot though.

Added Info:

I would like to run big joes on the stock rims in case that would effect any of my choices here, If you have any helpful info for me Let me know and tell me what you think about this setup, Maybe even est speeds. Any additional info is welcomes i have been browsing the lst forums and here but i figured id ask you guys and see what you think

Ok, I will try to answer all of the questions... I just finished a lst conversion and could not be happier with the setup...

First, the tdr mount can be setup to run just about any motor. Contact him before you buy and specify that you need the center part of the mount to use a 30mm bolt spacing and fit m4 thread bolts. He is super helpful and the mount is top notch.

Big Joes are about 6.5 inches tall, so about the same height as the stock lst tires. You will have to use 40 series wheels, but the lst2 420 wheels will work fine.

My setup uses motor brakes, I bought the tdr single speed hub, and use 63/24 gearing. With your tires that would get you around 40mph. The only issue I can see is the 6mm shaft on the kb motor. The only easy to get pinions I have found are from sdp-si and kershaw designs, and all they have are 18 and 20t pinions. I have had a machinist turn the kb shaft down to 5mm successfully, paralyzed has that motor. Most likely the best way to have a decent selection of gearing options. FYI, the tdr mount will not fit any less than a 24t pinion with the 63t spur...

Not sure if you want to do the FOC on your tranny, or retain the manually selectable high/low setup. I opted for the FOC, and it is very simple and light weight. Either way you want to remove the reverse gears and servo (for battery tray mounting), and without the FOC you will have to shim the space leftover on the input shaft, and lock the reverse slider in place. The FOC is the best bet, but i am working on removing the reverse stuff from my lst tranny and leaving the high/low selector (for my other lst project).

The MMM will be fine, I run a v3 model on 6s and it does everything great and the fan never comes on for me, good cool setup. The kb8xl is a great motor, especially considering the price.

aA far as the batteries go, I would go with the rhino, both have the same discharge ability (around 100 amps cont) but the rhino has more capacity (mah) for longer runtimes and is a bit cheaper. It does weigh slightly more, but not much.

Another bit of info is that fitting a large lipo between the radio box and the tranny will require removal of the radio box, or at least cutting the hinges off. My lipo is 44mm wide, and that is about the max you will fit (tray sides will add a bit and fill the rest of the space).

Anybody Know Anything About The Emaxx Tranny Conversion? Is It Good? i think it would be a little bit easier to make a motor mount and maybe run 2 packs on the side of the chassis?. Probably Cheaper.

The old emaxx motor plate will not accept the kb motors due to the different bolt pattern. And the old emaxx tranny is too weak, unless you use the gmaxx single speed conversion, and the revo slipper mod. The new erevo tranny will bolt up to the motor, but after you add it all up it will cost more than the tdr mount. Plus you will have to make a new chassis, or adapter plate to mount the tranny to.

You still have all of the same issues, plus the side battery mounts are not ideal. You want the weight of the batt as far forward as possible.

Why remove a good transmission to install a crappy one?

This just doesent make sence to me.

Here is a lot of good information in my old build thread.

The lipos you linked to will only be good to about 40mph. So the gearing I suggested will be about it. If you want to gear up you will need to go to a better lipo, such as the fp 45000 30c 6s that I run. Bit those are expensive 2-3x as much as the zippy...

Either setup you mentioned will be able to go fast, your electronics will be the limiting factor (and driving skill)

The pinions are the std screw on ones that come with the lst2. Rcm monster do sell them and a few other companies do too.

I am sure that he has the V3 by now.

I would choose the higher mah lipo, and the max C rating is really irrelavent...

Here is the FOC: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSB3130
