I'll go ahead and post what I've found to work the best for me, not all of them are particularly cheap but they all work very well.
1/10th scale 2 wheel drive (RC10GT, Rustler, Jato)
Hitec HS-625MG: $35ish brand new, VERY durable, plenty fast and torquey for flopping around M2ks on a Stampede or the Badlands on my Rustler.
1/10th scale mini-truggy 4wd (crt.5, ls10, DST)
Convert it to use a standard servo and run the 625.
1/8th Buggy 4wd
I've got my Revo's Hitec HS-985MG in my Hyper and it works very well, could probably go with a cheaper servo for this.
1/8th Truggy - Muggy
Tried the 985 in my Muggy and it was pitifully weak, upgraded to the JR DS8711 and it'll steer the stock tires (basically 40 series crimefighters) on thick carpet with ease. So powerful that despite the threadlock on the screws it flexes the aluminum servo mount on my Muggy. VERY impressive servo, it's pricey but it's a beast.
E-Maxx - Revo - Savage - LST (Single servo setups)
I found the Hitec 985MG to work very well in my Revo, it was cheap compared to what most other people were using and steered pretty quick.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
