HPI GT ESC Goes To Fail-Safe After 5 Minutes of Running - 01.07.2009, 08:06 PM

Well, this has been going on forever now.

At about 5 minutes into my run, my ESC goes into fail-safe...

Now, when this first happened, I said, well, time for 2.4ghz... I needed one anyways for my brushless TT-01....

So off I went, and bought a DX3R...

And it STILL happened.. This is when I got PISSED.

So, now, I'm running 2.4ghz, antenna has at least 4 inches of vertical tube thingish....

It's not happening to any other of my cars, except this one... What a stubborn

:D

Sorry about my rant.. This has been going on for quite awhile..
Some specs:

E-Savage
KD Shocks
700NON-HO Motors (2)
TrueRC 5000mAh 2S HardCased (2)
No LVC, wanted to troubleshoot, and LVC isn't the problem

I have a feeling it's either: 1. My motors (I dunno?) or 2. My ESC is just epic fail....

Any help is appreciated...

Just too kit outside for a quick run.
Got it into fail safe once again.
I shouldn't say exactly at 5 minutes..
But I haven't had a run where the failsafe never "kicked" in...

ESC: 160
Motors ~130
Ambient ~125

I NEED to mention, that how I know it's in fail safe (haven't run the ESavage w/o a shell yet... =/) that it almost bunnyhops..

It goes, stops going, goes, stop going, goes..
So, it'll stick it's nose up, come down, motor stops, failsafe, failsafe, blinking, up, down, up down, up down, then failsafe is STILL going. So I walk up, wait a bit, and it goes away.. Weird huh?

I know, brushed sucks, absolutely!
But, I'd like to make the most out of my KD 700 motors, as these are INCREDIBLE.

I also need to note, this as only been going on for the last month or two...

Before, this was not existant, until say, a month or two ago?

I think what caused this, was when my little cousin ran it into a tree.. The fan clipped, and I guess something in the ESC dislodged, but nothing's loose inside, as far as I can see..

I'm picking up some GCM ExArms, and GCM ExCVDs, and also one or maybe two assembled GCM diffs.

GCM is a one man company, and is products are amazing..
These things are a must if you're going brushless....
So I need them, then Ill pick up the brushless MMM 2200kV combo from CC..

it's getting hot and going into failsafe, waiting cools it off and it orks again. those 700's are asking a lot from that esc. smaller tires will help, a fan on the esc may may help, gearing down may help

Ah, go figures.
But come it wasn't doing this earlier?
I'll switch back to my stocker tires..
I have the HPI Aggressors and the Hellfire Black Dish 17mm tires+rims...

I'll have to order in a new fan.

could have gotten weak. 160 doesn't sound real hot, but the calibration of the failsafe may be off. If you ran with those tires before without going into thermal, the I would check to make sure everything spins freely. A little binding can kill an esc.

Well, I DO notice binding, tons.
But I've checked my diffs, drive trains, EVERYTHING, apparently not enough!
I can't find the binding...
