emaxx performance - 01.10.2009, 11:43 AM

How do you guys think my emaxx would perform with an 8xl on 3s2p a123 batteries?

Epic fail.

You need at least 5s2p (equal to 4s lipo) to run the 8XL properly- voltage x kv rating = total rpms; you need to be aiming for about 30-40,000rpms ideally.

Will it be faster than 14.4 nimh though ?

Not with 3s2pa123 unless you where running garbage nimh batteries

RC-Monster RC8T 1515 2.5D/MMM/5s RC-M 4500mah
SC10 MMPro 13.5T 2s NeuEnery 5000mah
RC18T Mamba 25/5400kv 2s lipo + 6s NiMh

Wont 3s a123 provide twice the amps as nimh though? But i guess the 8xl will only pull 80a though. I got mamba max esc so i cant really run 6s a123 i dont think.Oh Well i ordered two 3s a123s on ebay so i guess ill just wait and use them in series when i get a mamba monster, lol.

I think the OP needs a lesson in voltage here:

Nimh cell = 1.2v, 1.5v fully charged.
Lipo cell = 3.7v, 4.2v fully charged.
A123 cell = 3.3v, 3.65v fully charged.

Running a 3s2p A123 setup would be much slower than 12 nimh cells, about half the speed actually, just more punch off the line and better runtime probably.

if you are after ideas for battery upgrades, then I would say stick to either top quality nimhs from SPC or Promatch, or get a couple 2s 5000-8000mah 15-25c lipos from SPC (Im assuming limited budget here). A123s are nice batts with advantages and disadvantages, but to get their full potential you will need 10-12 of the buggers, which means alot of money, plus the charger for them also.

Not always- a single A123 cell = 2300mah, but its current output is much better, around ~70 amps or so I believe.

May be continously, but it will pull peaks around 120amps or so.

Not ideal, infact castle have stated in no uncertain terms that if a user uses an unsuitable battery that produces ripple currents due to poor current output under load, the esc wont be covered under warrenty.

You HAVE to use a 2p configuration when running the MMM with any large BL motor like a feigao XL or the CastleNeu etc.
