Waterproof brushless system! - 01.12.2009, 01:59 PM

Hi Guys,

I'm searching a GOOD waterproof brushless system, that IS waterproof (So i can drop it in my swimming pool or something like that ) But it should be good quality, not run too hot etc.
It should be a good powerfull setup for a Traxxas Slash.
So, do you know something? Please reply!

Thank you,

Patrick

There isnt one.

There are a couple waterproof escs- the MTronics and Hobbywing Seaking escs are sold as being fully waterproof, but the former is old and extinct pretty much, anbd the latter is chinese and pretty much untested.

No BL motor is waterproof as they arent 100% watertight.

None of the electrical connections will be waterproof either, nor will your batts be in all likelyhood.

You can take some measures like plastidipping the escs and wires etc, or having a tupperware party on the chassis, but nothing will be 100%.

Best you can do is avoid running a truck loaded with $$$ equipment near or in water as that would just be daft anyway- snow is okay as long as you take the steps mentioned.

the kontronik jive esc are also claimed to be waterproof. they are very high quality. no reverse though.
however the problem with the motor etc remains.

Just buy submarine, if you wanna play in swimmingpool filled with water...
Problem realy is, motor, it would be alot of work to make it waterproof, you would need case where motor is, and then somehow get the saft out of that case without water coming in, and them comes those heat issues...
It is possible, but it just too much work.

I have never had a water issue with a brushless motor! I sunk my lehner 5300 under water and ran a whole pack threw it with no issues. I was using a shultze u-force 75 esc which was under the water too. The connections didnt short out b/c of the high resistance of tap water. Now I wouldnt try saltwater though. I dont see an electric motor having issues under water??????? The windings are sealed. The only worry would be the bearings if you dont clean them afterwords.

I did open the the motor to get the traped water out and sprayed out with wd 40 when I was done. I did this test b/c I just had to prove a point to a few friends!!
Also I wouldnt trust the battery as in my test my battery stayed dry as I didnt want to kill my new(at the time) mached gp3300s

I'm running the MGM ComPro 16028 esc and MGM do a range of esc's suitable for both car and marine application, don't expect to get them for Castle Creation prices though!

Losi 8T RR - Novarossi Plus 21-5BT/ Jammin JP3 - Teknorc 8T - Neu 1515-1Y - MGM 16025-3 Z Series ESC.
