Will this ESC be able to handle this motor? - 02.01.2009, 03:43 PM

Well I should have enough spare cash to be able to purchase an esc for my 1/5. My question is do I want to risk buying the esc and having it burn up on my or am I safe? Here are the specs on the motor.

KollMorgen 400
It has 18poles, a 78mm x 45mm rotor and the case size is 110mm x 79mm. Its originally intended for an electric 24v scooter but I will be running it on 10s lipo. The motor had immense power when it was in the scooter. I could pop wheelies on a full charge without having to lean back.

ESC I plan to buy- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...12S_BESC_(Ver4)

I did some research on the motor and my guess is the electronics will be ok, I would be concerned about your drivetrain with the amount of torque that motor will produce and the amount of RPMs the motor is designed for (3500) but you never know untill you try...some of the most fun I have had with projects is trying something new

I am going to gear it at .84. It will have a 13t sproket pinion and an 11t sproket spur.

400w/24v is under 17 amps. You're running 37v so that would be an estimated 650w. 650w/37v is 17.5a... WTF that's not right. It would pull more amps...

It should work. The esc is good to 3700w at 10s and nearly 4.5kv at 12s lipo. That esc gets good reviews too. I am thinking about getting that too for my electric bike...

Startup is not all that great with that esc. If I may suggest one of Lutach's 10s car escs. Might be your best bet.

The wattage rating for the motor has to be in different terms for r/c... That motor in an r/c standpoint should totally haul ass.

400W/24V=16.6667A

24V/16.6667A=1.434Ohms

37V/1.434Ohms=25.802A

37V*25.802A=954.674W

So- the motor should actually put out ~950W@~25A on 10s LiPo (37V).

Theoretically.
