New project - Brushless Revo - 02.03.2009, 11:24 PM

Hey guys starting a BL Revo project, just bought a Nitro the other day, lots of Alloy goodies on it, very sturdy. Have ripped the Nitro motor out to hopefully fund some of the conversion.

Electrics I already have for this are:

MMM V3 ESC
Spektrum Radio
2 * 2s 5000 Reedy Hard Cased Lipos

Any ideas what motor and gearing I should use? I prefer the Medusa motors and we have to run on 4s Lipo

Also any weak points that need to be upgraded. Front and rear diffs have been done, unsure on centre, still have to check.

Aiming for top speeds around 40mph, is this a realistic expectation on 4s Lipo. Would like to lift the front end on occasion as well.

I'm running a Medusa 36-70-2000Kv on my conversion.

I would opt for a neu 1415, 1515, or a medusa 70mm, gear according to whatever speed you want.

Yeah I was looking at the 70mm 2300 motor, gearing wise it'd have to be able to run fairly cool given the climate here, in summer we can get some days pushing 110-120f and racing doesn't necessarily stop for that.

Another pic, nitro gear is out, ready for the BL gear, centre transmission is on the bench for inspection.

I would get rid of the 40 series wheels and go with a more traditional Maxx size rim, I run maximizer beadlocks with badland tires

Yeah the truck came with 23mm rims and these on them, so when they are due for a change I will revert back to 17mm as thats what my Buggy runs

I had a look and if I want to run the Electriclutch I have to use a 60mm medusa to have suspension clearance at the rear.

Will this be underpowered?

you could do it, but if you went with a 70mm it would put less stress on the motor

70-2300 or 70-2000 would be great with mikes mount and i dont think you will have any problems with start up on a 36-70 so you dont really need a clutch (i have the clutch and i hate it)

You can use a 70mm Medusa just fine. No suspension clearance problem at all.

you would be better off with a 36-70 reguardless of if you keep the 2 speed

the 36-70 will run cooler and offer more power on demand at any rpm than the 36-60 will, run time diffrences will not be very diffrent between the two motors.

the big question is how heavy will your battery be? and are you going to race or bash

Well for the time being funds dictate I need to use the 36-60 from my X1CR as I can't afford another motor right now (maybe next month lol!)

What gearing would you suggest? I will be running 4s (2 * 2s 5000mah 20c Reedy Hard cased) and the truck has a Forward only conversion standard gears (13/17), aiming around 35-40mph but my main goal is a reliable cool running set up. What gearing do others with the Revo conversion use?

I will also be using mechanical brakes

Ok I got a Neu 1515 2050kv, it's a 60mm long can, so is that the 2d? - no wait been told it's a Neu 1515 2.5d

What gearing should I run with the standard 2 speed transmission. Also have a Robinson Racing steel wide range gear set on order and have alloy diff cups done, anything else need beefing up?
