Which Batteries? - 02.07.2009, 04:21 AM

I'm looking for batteries for my LST2 conversion using a NEU 1527/1D and an MGM 28025. I will be runnning 6S LiPo or 7S A123. If I go lipo which packs will be up to the task? if A123 7S 2P or 3P?
I've been considering the new 40C TP 5000mAh packs but I'll have to run 2x3S or 4S+2S to get 6S.
Any other recommendations?

Big, big batteries.

15271D is a 2300kv motor- thats gonna pull a shit load of current I would have thought, so best with 6s2p of 6s3p of A123 cells, or 6s lipo and gear down rather alot- not the best motor choice for a big truck... (its ment to be low kv and high voltage, not high kv and high voltage)...

You would really have to use a pair of lipos in series to get 6s, no way a single 6s lipo would really work or fit terribly well. The TP 40C lipos seem like a great option, but anything 30c or more is gonna kick ass in the 5000mah range.

I would order a 2s and 3s 40c pack for 5s. 6s is too much for that motor/truck (51000rpm)

I'm also working on a LST conversion. I already have a MMM 2200kv combo, but need to install it and also need to buy batteries.
I heard+saw that the LST (7 kilo) has a HUGE acceleration with a 2200kv combo on 6 cell A123. So I wouldn't buy a 1527, but a 1521, because with the 2200kv motor (Looks like the 1515) it already has tons of acceleration. You will rip it appart with a 1527, I think.

Now, about the batteries; I'm also planning running those TP 40C packs 2x3S in series. Somebody on this forum used them and said they are great! But I deffiniteley wouldn't buy cheap batteries! I also think a minimum of 30C and 5000mAh is a must have!

Look this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meGhxPOjVmM
In that video he uses a cheap chineese motor, 10XL with 1600kv or something. And he said to me that the 2200kv castle-neu motor had a LOT more power + speed! So a 1527 would be totally redicolouse!

I agree that a 1527 will rip a LST2 up. There are people that are breaking pins inside the tranny with a 1515 (75mm motor), so a 1527 (105mm, IIRC) will be absolute torture for it. I've got an 80mm MedUsa motor in my Muggy and it cracked a diff case and has rediculous power on just 4s lipo.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

I'm currently bidding on some Dewalt packs(for 6S3P) on Ebay ATM but if I don't get them, which 5000mAh+ pack would you guys recommend i have room for 2S+3S or 3S+3S with 5000mAh+ cells (or 3 lower mAh 5S/6S packs in parallel).
P.S. I would like to keep the battery price(s) under $400USD

And regarding the motor I just wanted something fun and overkill...the LST I'll be using it in is far from stock, as far as drivetrain everthing but the tranny and axles has been upgraded (ie - diffs=tini+nova cups+gpm cases spur/pinion=tini) and the rest of the truck has been upgraded also using titanium and aluminum where needed, I'll post pics when it's closer to being done.

if you limit the WOT to a rolling start and not from a stop it will be much easier on the drivetrain...no standing backflips.....

I wasn't planning on a whole lot of jumping or WOT since I know how hard it is on the drive train. Once i get the PC programmer for the MGM I will also put somewhat of a soft start on it to be a little easier on the batteries.

Well i got 16 A123 cells now but I still need 2 more for 3P. If you have 2 new A123 cells for a decent price PM me.

I will be ordering the rest of the building supplies this week, will sub-c bars be long enough(Dean's ProBar 3)?, and I think I'll get some Dean's Wet Noodle (or 10AWG?) and EC5's for the batts with 6.5mm bullets on the ESC.

P.S. for weight distribution purposes I will probably run 9 cells in front and 9 in the rear.

If you have any other suggestions LMK.

If you do a 1527, go with the 1.5D. The 1D is a AMP HOG. The 1.5D is flat out awesome....does draw much as long as you don't get stupid with load. Even on my heavy trucks with 6-8S its a monster and easily pulls them around without even getting warm.

I already have the 1527/1D and an MGM 28025 which should easily handle the motor since it also has 2 fans on it. So unless someone has a new NEU 1527/1.5D and an MGM 25035 I'll be using what I have.

P.S. still looking for 2 new A123 cells, will go to Ebay if needed.

Sounds like a fun project. 3p a123 will be necessay. As far as lipo goes, a pair of 5s 6000 polyquest/neu/fp/polyrc 25 packs wired in parallel should do the job to power that beast.

My lst2 with the hacker 10xl on 6s will easily do standing back flips, and will wheely at any speed. So that 1527 should be insane. I do have a 1521 1y that I need to try, but I need better wheels and tires for that.

thats what im running, 2 5s 25c 5000mah Neu packs in parallel, im getting 30-40mins of runtime with alot of WOT speed runs and just general driving etc. i would definately recommend this setup, or 6s in parallel if you want to go 6s.

Would like to see how those TP 40c packs hold up though, im in need of shaving some weight

I too am interested in the tp 40c packs. I would like to find a more powerful alternative to my fp 4500 30c 6s lipo, but I really do not need more than 5000mah, and the same size and similar weight would be nice. I may just be asking too much though. I would also like to give the zippy flightmax 30c 5000 6s lipo a try, for 120 bucks it sounds like a steal to me. I am having trouble believing that it will outperform the fp pack though...
