back on topic...It appears the Zippy's, and also to some extent the Rhinos, are made with 10 gauge wire? Particularly the 4500+ packs?

Definitely 10ga. wire. My guess is this is their way of compensating for lesser-quality wire. I mean, their 12ga. probably wouldn't stand up to Deans Wet Noodle (12ga.) wire in terms of current handling, for example.
