My Micro T cap mod - 02.23.2009, 09:35 PM

I've had a micro dt for awhile now. I haven't ran it due to having the stock crap battery.. I got a decent lipo from hobbycity. It's a rhino 2s 610mah 20c lipo.

Now the car is pretty dang fast. I can do wheelies every so often and I get great speeds out of this little thing. I should also mention I get 1hr+ runtimes... My motor temp is around 200f.

I still have the stock motor and I'm looking to increase performance. One of the battery leads came out of the board so I decided to throw a cap in there I salvaged from, ironically, and old broken tx.

I plug it in a for the first minute of the run I really don't notice much. Then all of a sudden it comes alive! I get wheelies every time I go from a standstill. I get sooo much more punch at every speed. This thing is amazing!! Unfortunately my run ended when I went full speed into a large pot and broke a knuckle. That was after I couldnt steer it because the front wheels were in the air! ha

Here is a pic. You can see the cap and how I fit the 610mah lipo in there. The cap is a 10uf 25v cap.

I'd also like to mention this is my first time soldering to a board! All went well.

Cool. That 610uF cap must be providing a little extra current boost that the battery wouldn't otherwise be able to provide, or at least not as well. If that cap made that much difference, I bet it would be even better with from 2000uF to 4700uF instead (only needs a rating of ~10v).

The cap on now is only 10uf... I found another cap that is 470uf 10v that I might switch in there if someon can convince me it will be better.

Oops, I quickly read 610, but that was your lipo capacity. Thought that was an odd capacitance value, but whatever. Go ahead and put in that 470uF, it can't hurt, but it can help. How much it will help is unknown until you try it.

Once I get my micro T fixed I'll run it more with the same cap. Once I get a good feel for the performance, I'll switch over to the bigger cap.

Well now the car is insaine. I accidently destroyed 3 a arms today. I might go for aluminum ones... I blame it on my upper camber links that came with it. I can do wheelies from a roll.

One problem which might be the downfall of this is that the esc is struggling to cope with the power. Every few times I nail the throttle It'll turn off and I need to re-arm the esc. I don't know how to fix it. Would new fet's fix it? Could it be my soldering job?
