Similar to all Castle motors -- .20mm laminations, M19 grade or better, magnet grades will vary depending on application, but we will use the best quality magnets available, Power handling better than any other outrunners that are similar in size (we were pushing some 30mm motors above 1000 watts burst this weekend...)

So these outrunners are designed for air applications? any possibility or advantage to use them in surface models?

These can be used anywhere. You can search direct drive outrunner setups and find some good ones. I have an outrunner in my crt .5.

Well, the issue with using an outrunner in surface applications is that the motors are very open -- easy to get sand, dirt, metal shavings, etc. into the motor. If you are using them in an application where it is a relatively "clean" application, you can use an outrunner. Otherwise, it's best to use an inrunner, which is much more sealed to the environment.

I would guess if you put some screen or mesh of some sort over all the holes then that should protect the motor enough. I don't have any cover on mine and I don't plan on putting any cover on. With the motor spinning the rock would have a tough time getting in there. Besides, if the motor does get ruined, it would be an excuse to get a castle outrunner. I would definately put mesh on that. I doubt warrenty would cover that.

Do these motors have a 5mm shaft and 25mm bolt spacing?

I've ran alot of different "land vehicle" outrunner setups and I've never had a motor fail because of debris.

With the E maxx and the E Revo, the motor sits toward the front of the platform and in the middle. It seems to be pretty protected there from UFO's.

I can see how some setups would be more at risk. Such as being low, in the back and center. That's like dirt central.

The 30mm and 34mm motors do have 5mm shaft and 25mm bolt spacing. The larger motors have 6mm or 8mm shafts, and the smaller motors (22mm) have 3.2mm shaft.

One of the issues with outrunners is that the magnets are hanging way out -- they tend to collect stuff we would never think they would pick up... there are literally billions of little iron filings in streets and alleys everywhere (shed from cars...)

I have a feeling that CC will target the axi for peformance, and most likely price their lower than axi. I have to say that axi motors have always impressed me.

Hey Patrick... Any chance of a crawler specific outrunner, 1/8 shaft, 25mm spacing, 2822-26 specs and 1100kv? Maybe with a sensor wire and a special esc? (man, I am askin way too much, huh!)

I hope it is well under 100 dollars... the motor I have now costs 30 bucks so anything over 50 will seem expensive.

Here is a picture of my crt .5. It would look great with a nice looking CC outrunner in it, wouldn't it? I need about the same specs as linc's... I don't know the stator measurements, but ~1100kv, 25mm spacing, ~36mm OD, and a 5mm shaft. Is that around 2822-26?

That's why your outrunner still survives, I toasted mine(Align 600L) in my 8ight-T after I covered all the vent holes to keep the inside clean. Outrunners' coil seems having really hard time getting heat out.--- they fit open air use only.
