17lbs? You win! I see the jumbo clawdawg rubber (4lbs) and rc4wd alloy rims (~4lbs), no wonder its a beast.

I think Linc's suggestions are pretty much spot on, though I went a step further on the tranny abd bought rc4wd allot emaxx gears- not ont the site anymore by the looks of it so may be hard to locate (I have done all the internal mods mentioned including steel idler, but then the plastic output gear shredded on 2 occasions, so metal was my only other choice).
