Can someone Help me buy lipos for my first setup? -
03.23.2009, 07:42 PM
Okay I just finished a brushless Inferno gt running single pack configuration,MMMV3 and 2200 KV.Can you guys recommend the type of pack I should run on this setup.Someone told me to run a 20c 3s pack but this just doesn't seem like it will be enough being that I want at least 15-20 minute run times. I checked hobby city after hearing so much about the zippy's but they are all sold out. I was thinking of going with their 5000mah 3s or 4s 25c packs. All of the other brands of lipo seem overpriced everywhere else ,or am I just being cheap? lol

C ratings have nothing to do with runtime... WHoever told you to run 3s was an idiot... You should try 4-6s 5000mah for a 20 minute runtime(or at least close). For the price zippies are the best you can get and worth the wait if thats all you can afford.
If you have cash to burn go with anything with enerland cells. Enerland, Polyquest, flightpower, and rc-monster are all good brands.
Stay away from maxamps tho.

fantom and smc have 40c 5200 hardcase 2 cells and a soft 4 cell version. My buddy uses the 2 cells in his slash and they have a substantial effect on the sealed endball motor. 3 cells is just lame, ive seen it in buggies and a truggy all running the novak system. its like cutting your toes off. small change, can still run, but how fast? lol run 4s AT LEAST and just gear it right for how you use it. the guy in the truggy couldnt make a 5 min race on a 3s 3200.theoreticly you get your runtime from capacity and c rating will affect "punch" and temps. higher c rating is always better, buy the best batts you can afford as you are always limited by your batts in an electric car and that 2200 will need to consume mass quantities of amps during operation.

For a fast on road car, I would run 6s with the MMM 2200 system. In fact I have a Ofna GTP with a CC 2200 that I am working on, actually just need to get an ESC for it and mabe some different lipos.

Hahah you dont have to tell me twice I have always thought max amps was overpriced since they were first released but I never thought I'd hear about them having bad quality. I guess the saying that you get what you pay for isn't always true. C rating is voltage right? How do you think this pack would work out for me?

C rating = discharge rating- as in 5000mah x 20c = 100amps continuous output.
Voltage is 3.7v per cell, the S next to the 2,3,4,5,6 means Series, as in the number of cells in series to give you a total pack voltage.
You want a single 4s or pair of 2s in series for your setup ideally.

I dont know what your gearing is and if 1 speed or 2, but MMM/2200kv- 4s in a Kyosho gt wont go nearly as fast as the nitro versions, he will be going high 40's .. I agree with Bdebde, throw a 6s /25c-30c/5000mah. Hit high 60 low 70s easy .. Gear for 100+mph speed runs...
Gotta measure your battery tray to find what will fit

I have done the single speed conversion running a 44t spur and whatever tooth pinion comes with the CC 2200,I am still waiting for the Castle setup to arrive

Yeah, many 6s will fit mikes tray, just check dimensions.
I won't even mess with 4s for the GTP, I have a spare MM and lots of 4s batts, so I could run it now, but the SPEED would not be that fast (or at least not for me). 4s may be ok if you have a two speed or don't want it to go that fast. I will wait until I get another 6s controller, and for better weather, then I will unleash the beast.

I believe you will need to order another pinion. If I am not mistaken, you have mod1 spur, the pinion included with the castle set up is 32 pitch.

would it be safe to run two 3s packs side by side with a Y harness? I really don't want most of the weight on one side of the chassis from using a 6s pack. Any benefit running one setup over the other, both packs being identical on the dual setup? Obviously it would be easier to charge one pack being that I have only one charger and won't have to wait for two.

Side by Side would be great if you have the room. 2x 3s lipos 5000 mah or 2x 6s lipos 2500 mah. if you have the room.
It wouldnt be "THAT" off weight with 1 lipo, approx. 850 grams for a 6s 5000 lipo,... otherside 340g for a 1515, 50g for a servo etc..
some here have pics of their buggys/truggys with dual RCM trays and the RCM mount on the front diff mount so the motor sits at the front drivers side... Cant find a pic ATM..
