gearing comparison - 03.31.2009, 04:21 PM

I am running 0.8 pitch gears on my Rustler. Just wondering what that would be equivalent to in the stock 48 pitch gears?

I run 19/56.

I also have a 21t pinion but I do not have enough adjustment on the mount to set the mesh correct with the 56t spur. So I will be running also 21/54.

30/86

Just multiply your pinion size by 86/56 to get the stock 48p equivalent

Well, using this, I get 31.6mm between the shafts with Mod0.8 19/56. But to suggest a replacement for any other pitch, you'd also need what spur (or pinion) you plan to use so you can solve for the unknown. But, just to throw a number out there, let's say you want to use a 90T 48P spur, that would be a 25T pinion to keep the same shaft to shaft distance.

19/56 = 0.33928571428571428571428571428571
30/86 = 0.3488372093023255813953488372093
31.6/86 = 0.36744186046511627906976744186047

29.178571428571428571428571428571 / 86 = 19/56 = 0.33928571428571428571428571428571

Brian - I always work in teeth as this is really what is important rather than diameter...

I rounded up to 30 rather than down to 29...

I thought he was concerned about shaft-to-shaft clearance...

No sorry. I need to know what 19/56 is and 21/54. What that would be equivalent to in the stock Rustler 48 pitch gears. I was going to use 21/56 but there is not enough adjustment to allow correct mesh, it is too tight. That is the reasoning to drop 2 teeth on the spur to 54.

So my gearing options will be:
19/56
19/54
21/54

All 0.8 pitch.

Sorry for any confusion. I am not good at figuring out the equivalent stock ratio.

So being comparable to a 30t stock 48 pitch pinion I have to say my temps are pretty good.

Yesterday after running a hard 30 minute pack (2s Polyquest 30c 5000mah) through in 40 degree outside temps my ESC was 58, Pack was 68, motor was 68. Temps were taken with my Raytek MT4 infrared. The motor was super cool to the touch. I am digging my setup so far! Really cool and efficient. I am getting about 10 minutes more runtime as my buddy who is running the same pack and a VXL system. Not to mention his motor is kind of hot after the pack....

Jeremy1976,
If you don't know what pinion size to buy. Take your .33 (19/56) gear ratio and multiply that by your 48p spur teeth count to find your new 48p pinion teeth count.
