I have a Mugen MBX 5-R buggy that I want to convert to electric.
Can anyone give me some advice which NEU engine I shall use in my Mugen?
The ESC will be Castle C. Mamba Monster V3/MAX, no doubt about that!
I think I will choose an engine from NEU 1500-series, but I don’t know which….. what shall I look for? I want to have a long driving-time at the track and I want to beat the nitrocars

I’ll be using a li-po (from PolyQuest) with 6S and 4500-6000 mAh, well’see..
The Mugen MBX 5-R has a gear ratio 11.79:1, if that is some help…

Hey dave, welcome to Rc-monster

If your looking to race the 1512 series is the best beat, Probably a 3.5d or something around 1500kv to keep RPM down and the motor most efficient.

gearing is questionable, it depends on your track.. 35-40mph is the norm for racing.

12t- 35mph
13t-37-38mph
14t- 40mph

My mbx-5 is running a 1512 1.5YF 1900kv...if memories serves on 5s and it flies..I agree...The 1512 3D/F 1700kv would be a good choice

It sounds like you already decided on 6S lipo so a 1512 with a KV rating of 1300-1600 is good. One thing you want to make sure is that your battery is not too heavy or you will be really unbalanced. At 6S I personally run 3300mah and that is good. Anything over 4000mah for 6S on a buggy is too heavy and you may have body clearance issues with the battery.

I run 5s on a 1512/2.5d in my MBX5/Corr conversion and it works very well. Motor stays cool and I get at least 20-25 minutes of runtime with a Mike's 5Ah pack. Balance seems really good too, at least it jumps nice and straight.

Anyone know where I can find (and order) the NEU rear endbell cover ??
can't find it in RC Monster Store....

You won't find it because the newer style Neus have screwed endplates, and the screws are always in a different location so lining it up with the motor wires is a PITA. Some people use metal tape, screen, etc to seal the end.

How do I extend the wires from the NEU motor so it can reach the ESC?
what extra wire shall I have? I don't have any solder equipment...

First of all, I would maybe rethink the layout if you need longer wires. Usually, the combined length of the motor wires and ESC wires are long enough to reach without adding anything. Having motor wires that are too long can cause some issues - as with any high current application, the shorter the wires, the better.

Anyway, you can use a butt connector to lengthen the wires. I usually use these (the yellow will fit 12GA, but not 10GA), cut the pastic sleeving off, and soldering the motor wire to one end and the ESC wire to the other. Then, I heatshrink the whole thing. The result is a pretty clean look without much of an unsightly bump.
