Cheap DIY car stand - 04.27.2009, 04:06 PM

Got the original Idea from Eovnu87435Ds, but improved on it a bit.

Items required:
-2x4
-Long nails/screws for attaching wood together
-Finishing nails
-Toolbox/drawer liner
-3/16 heatshrink or tape(any kind)

Tools required:
-Hammer/Powerdrill
-saw

1. Cut a section of 2x4 for the top of the stand, make it as long as your car's chassis
2. cut a 3-4'' section of 2x4 and attach it to the underside of the top piece with screws or nails. (at this point it should look like a "T"
3. Cut another section of wood about the same size as the first to make a Base for your stand and attach it to the short vertical piece.
4. Place your truck onto the stand and mark the location of positioning pegs, when finished these will keep the truck from sliding off in every direction.
5. Use the Finishing nails as positioning pins and nail them where you just marked.
6. Cut your drawer liner to the thickness and length of the 2x4 so that it covers the top surface entirely.
7. Push the liner down over the nails so that it cannot slide and sits flat on the wood.
8. Cut heatshrink to size and place about 2-3 layers on the nails to keep them from squeaking on aluminum chassis's

And thats how its done. here is mine finished.

Two tires stacked always worked fine for me.

I use a square pail that sheetrock screws come in or my tool box. Carry my tools in them and after I set up I have a stand

I use an old coffee can, its perfect. The plastic lid grips the bottom of the car to stop it from sliding, the height is just right. Plus if you take it to the track with you it can be used as a storage container for spare parts etc. Works like a charm. Sorry no picture.

The can will come in handy for the ladies if there's no restrooms around also! lol Just one of those odd memories you can't shake from childhood. Grampa had a cabin we use to go to. No facilities other then an outhouse. I was around 6yrs or younger old but still remember the tin sound of mom hovering over a Folgers coffee can in the middle of the night instead of going to the outhouse. Got me laughing when I read about the coffee can stand.
