Esc on fire....HW...anyelse? - 05.12.2009, 02:12 PM

Hi I have a friend he just called me to say that his HW 80amp with 2350 kv was on fire today...and when I say on fire I don't mean that it melted or just broke...It did ignite and produced fire.... he said all was correct on set up from gear ratio to timing setting( not 1) etc...
Car was a truggy 1:8 about 5kg 1:19 gear ratio, 4s lipo.

Speaking around I heard that even novak was seen on fire....

Is it possible to make something like a list according to experience to see if some brand is more safe then others or if all of them occasionally can go as bad as fire?
Thinkgs like mamba monster, tekin can have this problem too???
Thanks
cheers

The 5kg truck could be too heavy for the esc. What's the timing setting? Did he play around with the punch control? What speed was the truck geared for?

If the fire was lit up during a run, it's likely been a result of a de-magnet-ed motor.
A de-mag motor has nothing more than a thick short wire, shorting the ESC's outputs.
