kyosho kanai on 3s - 12.18.2008, 06:00 PM

Hello I have a kyosho kanai converted to brushless, I have zippi 5000mha 3S lipo with mamba max and the motor (feigao 9 L or medusa 50mm 2200rpm) I have 3 pinions 13t, 17t and 19t.
The weight is 7.71lb Ready to run, with motor, battery, esc........... all.
Which is the best configuration to win nitros? I want to have runtime
Regards

that sounds like a combo with problems

normaly people run smaller motors on 6cell because the highter voltage normaly draws less amps and runs cooler.

you normaly gear a race buggy for 33-40 mph depending on the size of the track.

we need your spur size to calculate your gear ratio

this may help http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html

gearing it with a 17/50 would be 35mph unloaded but im pretty sure it will over heat on only 3 cell

I recommend atleast 4s to beat the nitro guys, gear for about 40-45mph, this website http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html has a top speed calculator at the top of the column to the left, courtesy of BrianG

your gonna be unable to gear your medusa high enough to run well on 3s, you need atleast a 4s lipo to gear your 2200kv medusa motor right. with your 17t pinion and 46t spur gear and im assuming your buggy's diffs have a ratio of 4.3 you'll come out at 40mph with a 4s battery which is about the right speed that you want to gear for, semi pro suggested gearing slightly lower for smaller tracks, about 33mph, thats where your 13t pinion would work. You need 4s for these numbers to work out right. All i did to get this info is go to the sight me and semi pro suggested and input your numbers in there, its pretty self explanatory.

Ok but, I only have 3s lipo, for the buggy on 3s and the monster on 6s, the lipos weight are
392g and two lipo for 6s on the buggy will be heavy, Then I want run on 3s. what setup will be the best?
1 MM + Medusa 50mm 2200kv, 3s lipo 5000mha, 17t pinion and 46t spur gear
2 MM + Medusa 50mm 2200kv, 3s lipo 5000mha, 13t pinion and 46t spur gear
3 MM + 9L 2700kv, 3s lipo 5000mha, 13t pinion and 46 spur gear
4 MM + 9L 2700kv, 3s lipo 5000mha, 17t pinion and 46 spur gear

Just started getting mine together, and the spur gear is rubbing on the chassis... Looks like I'll have to get the file out or find a smaller spur gear..
