If you dont want the center spool to shift in a dm-1, you just need these two parts numbers and it comes with the kit : 35230 (8x12mm flange ball bearing) and 35235 (clutch shoe carrier). You put the flange ball bearing in the rear of the spur and put the clutch shoe carrier in the front. You do not need to make a flat spot for the clutch shoe carrier. I been driving mine for almost a year and it never came loose when i use lock tite. Here's how it looks like : http://maxcapacitor.oplink.net/blunten/dm1center.JPG
That is fantastic--thanks for the tip. Looks very clean and stock.
I will have to look through the kit to find these parts. Not sure if we have the same kit but will soon find out . . .
. . . here it is! Looks like I might want to use both flanged bearings on the left side of the spur or get some 8.0mm washers--the spur is awfully close and am worried it might start to rub the motor mount when I apply the juice .
The screws that holds the spur will start carving into your motor mount. You just need one bearing on that side and make sure you put the flange side on the spur side that way it wont cause friction onto the center diff bearing.

The photo does depict a single flanged bearing on the left side of the spur--I need to flip the flange to the side of the spur. My RCPD motor mount must have the main bearing more recessed than the one you are using and is why it can not be seen in the photo.
I went back and placed both bearings on the left side and everything fits well. I will need to extend the notch on the drive shaft for the set screw on the spur hub.
The calculations say it is possible to go 70+mph...but I never could get it up to full throttle because the tires constantly break loose. Towards the end of the video there were a couple of passes where I was close to full throttle but not quite. I absolutely have to get a radar gun. I keep talking about it but I keep spending my $$$ on car parts!
By the way...I see some other folks on here are installing one-speed centers. This was a PITA to keep the DM-1 center shaft from sliding back and forth because there aren't any bearing stops milled into the shaft. Brian helped me come up with the idea to make a shim using 8.1mm inner diameter stainless steel tubing and a couple of 8.1mm innerdiameter washers. It worked like a charm. I still have some of that tubing if anybody needs it. If you order it from onlinemetals.com they charge an arm and a leg for shipping.
Hey That is a beautiful car Great pics, enjoyed reading
I am blown away that with a ratio of 6.7, a 51spur and 25 pinion that you still have a hard time doing full throttle.!and end up torque fliping
maybe you could move the motor forward ...
whats the weight?
The video was cool, looks like you need a circle track. definitely shows the power and speed, amazed to see it flip
Looks like I'm going to mount my motor in front
Thank you for posting video , I was going to run a 10:1 ratio but going to change to 5 or 6:1. although it's 9lbs and 21" wheels base X 15" wide so there shouldnt be any torque flippin
wish you were closer so we could race, when mine gets done that is
still working on it, needs a motor mount and tire adapters for the 1/5 but also make it easy to put on 3.2 wheels for the offroad stuff
again great build thread
Sweet ride, cant wait to see a new body on it, keep it coming
great looking conversion. i converted a 1/8 Schumacher last fall and it turned out ok and was fast but it just didnt have the durability of the Ofna or Kyosho stuff. I have been wanting to do a road car like this but wondering if anyone can tell me what is the major difference between the Ofna DM-1 and the Kyosho Inferno. Is one better than the other?
My neighbor has a Inferno GT that he brought over to me. he cant get it to work and he loves my brushless stuff so he said i could turn it electric if i want. i just have to pay for it and then we would "share" the car but he doesnt really do anything with RC. i have everything i need to do the conversion so i am thinking it will be my next project. this is a great thread for tips on converting one of these on roaders.
any suggestions from some of you who have already gone this route. i notice alot of people converting the Ofna cars but not the Inferno. is there a reason for this?

When I read this thread and began my conversion I learned that the DM-1 cars were a little more purpose-built for on-road. The Inferno is a good option but is essentially a buggy chassis. The DM-1 cars use different suspension geometry that offer better handling. That is my $.02.
I am currently selling my OFNA DM-1 Spec brushless conversion. I have everything required to complete the conversion but got into racing 1/8th scale off-road (brushless, of course). Email me if interested . . .

right on. at the moment every penny is going into my 1/5 project but thanks for the info.

Well it's time I build one of these. I originally wanted a 1/5 on road but it just isn't fast enough for me. I have a 1/5 4x4 truck and no I expand to Brushless on road.

I have one brand new in the box. Extra body, extra tires and all the components needed to convert to brushless. All you need is motor & ESC. Lemme know if you are interested . . .
