Remember when the V2 faulty BEC's would take out your radio gear with it?
Well I was just wondering if anyone had identified a way to repair affected servos. I had 2 traxxas waterproof ones go silently - no smoke or anything and was hoping it might be just a tiny circuit fuse or something simple so I
can put them back in the Emaxx to sell it.
The things that would typically go bad in a servo are voltage sensitive devices: the "decoder" IC and a few transistors/FETs for the motor driver. But that's about 75% of the servo. The rest is the case, motor, gears, and feedback pot. I doubt there is a fuse in there, and even if there was, fuses are for overcurrent protection, not overvoltage.
Thanks for your reply, thats makes sense as I recall now the faulty BEC was
suppling too high a voltage.
I might have a look at the circuitry but it sounds like it will be above my knowledge to fix
anything.
My V2 killed my servo the same time it killed itself, it was a Futaba BLS351(you know the price) .
I opened the aluminum case to found one of the FETs are burnt, it's actually a micro P+N FET module. No same component in hand so I soldered two discrete N and P channel FET instead. Now the servo works flawlessly.
