Please explain these brushless terms...

Just curious about these terms/ kv/1515 1y/ 2200kv. whats up with this? I want to be able to make informed buying decisions. What are the major brands? Neu/Medusa etc...

kv= revolutions per volt. If a motor has a kv of 2200, it will spin 22,000 rpm @ 10v.

1515/1y = Neu 1515 size motor. The 15xx series refers to the diameter, and the last "15" refers to the length. The "1" in "1y" means 1 turn of wire. The "y" mean the coils are configured in wye (also commonly called "star" or *) configuration.

2200kv = Probably referring to the Castle/Neu motors, which has a kv of 2200.

In answer to your question about motors. Neu are the best motors but, they are the most expensive....for the reason of being a hand wound motor. I personally own 2 Neu motors and the are amazing and they run v/cool as well. The Medusa line is a very good line of motors as well. Many use them here and are much more affordable than the Neu line. Castle/Neu motors are also getting good reviews. Tekin just released their new line of motors which I am sure will be very good...so the question is.....what is your application and how much can/do you want to spend

thanks im learning more and more each day, my main concern is being able to make informed buying decisions and being able to maintain my Trucks. Now if the price of lipos would come down or hobby city would get some more zippys in

You have no control over the current directly, its more to do with how much current the lipos/batts can deliver before they become over-drawn. At this point, they will heat up rapidly, swell up and in some rare cases catch fire, often taking the esc with it.

This is why its important to use a lipo/batt that can deliver enough current for what the motor & general setup will likely draw. Castle recommends a minimum of 100amps I believe, so you should aim for about 100-120+, the more the merrier (my setup can deliver about 200amps or more, so the lipos never even get warm, staying well below the 120*F max temperature that is safe for lipos).

I have heard that the losi 1/10 stuff isn't that great, but at least the 1/8 motors are good. but they're not that widespread. I have one, u find a review here in the forum.
