Custom gearbox for savage (center diff) - 06.23.2009, 03:35 AM

I started a thread a while back in the slipperential section, but it really belongs here in the savage department: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20266

I am basically making a custom gearbox for the savage which accepts most center diffs (although it really made to be used with the sliperential). It can accept a wide variety of ratios, accepting pinions of between 9 and 16t. (more if you use a 46t spur, the details are in the linked thread). I am running CEN diffs and 40 series wheels, so 50:9 or 50:10 is the ratio I will use.

I will be making myself one this wednesday on a rapid prototyping machine (printing ABS plastic, so its pretty strong, ready to be used).

I am wondering if anyone else might be interested in such a gearbox. Also looking for comments about it.

i might be interested in one if the price is right.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

UPDATED PICS ADDED:

Based on FLM tvp's, so the motor/ esc deck will end up where the stock reciever box goes. If you want to keep the recieevr box, you can drill new mountin holes and mount it the other way (so the motor is at the rear).

I will be interested once I get around to converting my savage if you'd still be building them then.

Looks awesome BTW!

Thanks, I look forward to getting some made (even if it is not soon, hehe).

I'll keep you all in mind when I start making them. Right now I am still looking for a shop that will CNC machien them. Please note the pics above do not depict a final product. Among other things, the fillets (rounded edges) most likely will not exist.

ALso note, I will not be sellign on this forum.
