St-e motor options - 07.20.2009, 08:56 PM

Hi guys,
Setting up a st-e and i've hit a wall on motor options....

Wanted to get a 3300kvV2 Medusa but they are out of stock. Email Medusa Research but have had no reply.
Neu is way out of my price range.

They seem to have the V1 in stock though.

My question is how does the V1 compare to the V2 and is the Great Planes Ammo 3300kv worth looking at?

I'll be running a Mamba max as the esc and 3s lipos.
Also when running the mamba max, would running a bec make much of a difference to the temps of the esc?

Any toughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers

on 3s a bec will help lower the esc temps.

If you want a good motor you can get the 1509 neu motors for a decent price, around 150 plus shipping.

A 1509 1y, 3600kv, would be great with 3s lipo.

Hey lincpimp, thanx for the quick reply.

I've seen those neu motors but just a bit out of my price range. $199 on Mikes site.

Is the neu really worth saving up for and paying the extra over the MedusaV2?
And where could i get the neu for 150?

Thanx

^+1 I run the same on my CRT.5 Running 2s, lipos are cheap and easy to get, and no need for a seperate bec. My MM generally runs 140-160 depending on gearing, motor <130, and lipos about 105.

Well, I have an off-the-wall suggestion: How about a Novak HV motor? That's what I plan to try in mine. I figure a HV7.5 on 3S (around 3000KV) would be awesome and maybe a 4.5 on 2S. Just don't try to plug in the sensor cable anywhere. (I've run a Novak SS5800 on a Castle sidewinder with very good results.)

I would run at least 3s lipo. I have the 50-3300 medusa and it's great on 3s with a BEC disabled MM. Temps are 115 motor, 130 MM, 95f 30c Flightpower 3300mah 3s lipo.

You could also look at the 60mm medusa's. I have one in my Ste. They're only $9 more than a 50mm medusa. The 60mm will produce less heat. Highest kv = 3100 so you'll have to run 3s.

edit: sorry, just saw these aren't in stock either

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies.
I'll have to check out the novak line of motors. Haven't heard much about them and don't see many over here (Australia).
I'm really leaning towards a 1509 neu motor, if the funds can be found.

2s would be much easier but just have troubles sourcing motors in the right price range...... i'll keep on looking.

Once again, thank you all for the inputs.

I would highly recommend a 3s setup over a 2s setup. It will run much cooler, longer, and faster. A good 30-35c pack (hyperion G3 vx) around 3000-4000mah (or even 5000mah) would be ideal. That with a nice motor around 3000-3800kv (medusa/Neu) would be the cream of the crop. Make sure to look for a used Neu. They are a lot cheaper then new. A 1512 would work great too.

Well after selling my 1st born child I've decided to purchase a neu 1509 2D/F

Hopefully the neu lives up to the hype.

Once again thanks all for all you input.
