It's really difficult to take readings of the esc since it is encased in plastic. However if the fan is on, chances are that it is only slightly above 150 as the fan is pretty good at keeping temps from rising much higher. The best place to temp the motor is the sticker on the endbell or the very end of the can. In general it is best to stay away from anything shiny when taking infrared readings.
