To those with mod 0.8 geared, long can slashs... - 08.06.2009, 10:15 AM

Do you think I could run an 8L motor geared 13/54 through an EZ-run 80 amp controller on 4s without heat problems in a slash? Slash is fitted with 17mm adapters to run buggy rims, but apart from a few other little alloy mods isn't really heavy. I've got the motor, lipo and gearing already, was thinking of getting the 80amp controller. They look to be pretty stout for the cash.

What speed is it geared for?

Use this to find out

just about anything below 45mph should be fine.

I say go for it. 4S in a slash is pretty high voltage for such a light vehicle. The EZ run 80 is pushing E-revos with the XL motors according to the advertisements. The gearing looks about right for this setup, but verifying with the speed calc is the best way to go. Since he is on 4S I would say maybe even over 45mph might be ok.

Hmmm... According to the speed calculator 13/54 should stick me right around 47 mph, which should be perfect. I also have 15/54 which should push about 55 mph with obviously higher temps to keep an eye on.

I think I'll go ahead, should be a pretty bad ass setup.

Oh, I have the MIP cvds. I know people have said they aren't particularly great, but I built mine properly (I.e threadlocking the pins in place) and have had no problems with a VXL on 3s geared 26/83.

Well, pulled the trigger on the 80a controller, should be fun.

The 8L is 3000kv, so will be pretty hairy on 4s, and will probably last all of ten seconds. However I'm guessing it will be a pretty hilarious 10 seconds.

I'll finally have a truly overpowered RC. Huzzah!

As long as the motor does not get too hot you should be fine. Keep your sessions down to 20 mins or so and you should be fine. A 9l would be a better choice for 4s, but the 8l should be ok.

I plan on picking up a CC/Neu 2650 in the long term. I'm well aware that the 8L is not the best motor choice for anything.

2650 for a Slash? Really not necessary, but insane and I love the idea.

Oh, that's nothing. I plan on picking up a Mamba Pro for my RB3 when it comes out, but there is nothing to say that it won't make it into my Slash with an XL motor on 6s...

Heh, dude the stock tires won't even hold up to a VXL on 3s geared 26/86.

My Slash is no stranger to silly speeds though, used to have it geared 29/76 on the VXL in this configuration. Anyone bags on Zippy lipos, I just point to this which ran on the bog standard 20c 5000s that never showed any signs of even sweating at that gearing.

Got the motor and Lipo through from our ever ready supplier of cheap electronics, Hobby city.

3 day shipping and a total of $89 for a 4s, 5000 30c-40c lipo and a KB36 8L makes me happy. At that price I really couldn't care less what happened to the motor, it's expendable.

A word on the lipo, I saw people saying how the Turnigy line had 10awg wire and it was hard to solder with anything much under industrial gear. Well the 30c-40c range comes with 8 awg wire. Thats eight as in 8 awg. E-I-G-H-T. Had to get the uber iron out to get the deans on, it's thicker than a god damn python... Love it though, it's an extremely well built pack and looks as though it will take some abuse, all cells showed up on the balancer reading 3.89.

I hope you have spare stub axles. I ran a Neu 1515 1.5D geared 24/36 in my Rustler and it was nutso fast on just 4s but it ripped up stub axles like mad. The 8L won't be as bad but I would still stock up on them. You should be plenty fine with that setup as far as amps and such, run it and let us know the results.

i was told that 10awg wire was excessive, but 8awg??? holy crap!! you could start a car with that battery!

edit: don't do any huge jumps with the stock motor mount. i was doing insane, 20ft+ high jumps with my vxl motor and when the truck landed, the plastic mount flexed so bad, that the motor can got dented from the wheelie bar mount. (rustler vxl)

the vxl motor is much lighter than the KD36-60 3000kv motor and your motor mount will flex more than mine.

btw, post some video please or at least let us know how the motor runs. that is the same exact motor i have planned for a hyper ste.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.
