SmC cells can puff, with the best of them!

I would think this battery was around ~160F coming off the track. He ran this battery for 4 races, charging between races. Charging it seemed to make the puffing go down. By the end of a 6 min heat it was puffed up like this. Just thought everyone would enjoy seeing a puffed battery.

Wasn't my battery, I wouldn't pay that premium SmC wants. He was running it in a Losi 1.0 with Losi conversion, MMM/2200 combo. Despite his battery, he was an incredible driver.

There is a guy at my local track that has the same battery and his does the same thing. Puffs a little and goes down when you charge it. He said he was going to call SMC about it but idk if he ever did.

My SMC packs did that.

I knew I'd see this. I had the same thing happen with my SMC 2S 6000mAh 24C hard-case LiPos. Conditions were:

Losi 8ight 1.0 buggy w/Tekno electric conversion
Tekno/Neu 1512/2.5D/Q motor
14/48 gearing
Racing at Indy RC World (Garland, TX)

I had been running a 16T pinion for a little while (about 12 minutes on the track practicing) when I brought it in and noticed the packs had puffed about 5mm each. They were also at 135dF when I pulled them off the buggy. Putting them back on charge brought them back up to 8.4V, the puffing went down to about 1mm each, and they took about 3000mAh back in. Gearing down to 14T, they did better, coming off the track puffed about 4mm each after a 15-minute main, at 130dF. Once again, recharging them took care of most of the puffing.

I don't want my LiPos coming off the track puffed up.

Hmm seems to be a pretty common occurrence with the SMC's.

SMC's have had a great rep, but they certainly don't underrate their packs. If they say 28C, they mean 28C. Not 30C, only 28C.

I expected better from smc. Guess they don't take the abuse some of the other packs do. I would take a 25c enerland pack over a smc now...

Just when I thought the only brand I'd ever need would be SMC...

EDIT: Nevermind, I found some stores.
