Puffy Lipo, What to do? - 08.19.2009, 08:14 PM

Had a Zippy 4s1p 5000mAh 20c pack go puffy yesterday while it was being ran in a jammin 1 truggy using castle mamba monster 2200kv geared 62/14, motor temps never got above 130F. pack temps never exceeding 100f and esc staying around 120ish. Thoughts on why this may have happened? Secondly what can i do to check that this pack is still runnable? its not puffy atm, is it safe to run? thoughts suggestions?

IMO 20c isn't enough for that system. No matter what you are geared.

LOL , 100amps is plenty isnt it?, i have about 6-8 cycles on that pack. is it that the motor is pulling 120amps? So the pack got puffy?

You got some pretty big tires in a truggy. I wouldn't doubt 120a. Although I like zippys, I'll admit they aren't ideal. They aren't the best choice.

I don't think the continuous rating did them in but it was the burst rating. What are they, 20-30c? That's not much of a burst. With a truggy I wouldn't doubt 150-175a bursts..

I agree, what kind of terrain are you running on, gravel will lower amp draw due to less traction, if your running on grass then ya your gonna be pulling some big spikes especially if your going WOT instantly, thats what causes those big amp spikes, going WOT on high traction terrain, just a thought put some buggy tires on it, may look kinda goofy but hey it may save ur batts idk just a thought

yea 20c is not enough on a 4s pack pullin big tires, i did the same thing to my 5s 5000mah H pack once it puffs expect it to puff again and eventually dwindle and die, maybe set it aside and maybe when it gets cooler out linc might be bored enough to want to start doing repairs again. id suggest getting a better pack, or if u want to stay with a zippy get a better c-rated pack or go 5s and gear down. i ran 5s in my crt as well, with no probs and great performance, great run time as well
