Battery Tray Help - damaged my Lipo :(

HI All,

I run an 8ight-T and have the Losi battery tray installed. I have dual-loc velcro in the tray and on the Lipo. After my run today, hitting some big jumps etc, it seems my battery has slid forward and been damaged by the front of the tray.

Does anyone manufacture a tray which has higher sides, to stop the tray digging into the lower half of my lipo?? Are battery trays (like the Tekno) which have a velco straps that runs the length of the tray better than trays which have straps from left to right (like the Losi)??



I am unsure if the bottom lipo cell is damaged, it seems mostly like the shrink wrapp has all bunched up. Out of caution I put the lipo in a lipo sack, in a metal toolbox, and placed it outside the house.

That don't look too bad. I mashed the side of one of my zippys kind of like that. I just pressed it out with my thumbs while the pack was still warm. Keep a close eye on each cells voltage. Charge a little slower the 1st time. Watch for puffing. And never charge it after midnight.

It would probably be worth getting a battery box made that is custom made to fit your battery, you'll have no issues with it sliding then, won't have to use velcro on the bottom, and can make do with two straps.

Mike (RC-Monster) does custom trays, and you can specify to have a compartment on the back for an ESC, like the Losi battery box you already have.

Your pic. is why I have ALL my battery trays made by Mike. I am awaiting the 5th he has done and I never have to worry about the batts. moving. It is well worth getting a custom tray made to fit your batts...piece of mind!

I run the Losi tray in both 8B and 8T conversions. I use industrial velcro to lock my lipos down to the tray and the 3 staps that come with the tray. We have some big SX style jumps at our track and I've never had a lipo move on me. I do also take up any additional space in the tray with foam padding. That extra padding may be the difference. I also work the lipo back and forth when I install it to make sure the velcro has fully grabbed. When I remove a lipo it's pretty tough and takes a lot of wiggling to get the velcro to let go.

I've just charged it and all cells have balanced which is a good sign I think. Not sure what else I can do to protect the soft-cell lipo's, have followed all the recommendations already. I'm going to purchase a hard case lipo. Found this battery which seems awsome for the price:
