Brushless hpi baja rc-monster

I talked with Mike about this last week, he said the conversion was mostly done accept for a few tweaks on it to make it an easy drop in. The original prototype needed the buggy to be slightly modified in order for it to work, the tweaks to the conversion will fix that. He said the price will be in the $125-$150 range. If you emailed him, you might could get one before it hits the store.

What will be the motor of choice for a setup like this? I have a decked out ESP powered baja that I would consider converting.

Does anyone know if they use the 5mm or 8mm shaft on these conversions?

the provided pinion gear will be 8mm bore for a 8mm shaft but i think you can get a bore reducer on the RCM store that can reduce the pinion bore from 8mm to 5mm. so you could go with either shaft size although i would recommend using the 8mm just from experience with my own 1/5 conversion and the amount of torque on the Neu 22xx motors. in my opinion, the slightest mistake in gear mesh or chassis flex would easily snap a 5mm shaft on these large, heavy conversions.

Do you guys recommend a finned can for better cooling or just the regular smooth one?

I've also had a look at this ESC:

The smooth motors allow more gearing possibilities. The conversion kit will likely have a mounting option for a fan over the motor for cooling.
I too am curious how that ESC would work - it looks good on paper. :)

Thanks. Just ordered two motors:

- 1x Neu 2215 750kv, smooth can, 8mm shaft
- 1x Neu 2215 480kv, smooth can, 8mm shaft

This will allow me to test both 8S, 10S and 12S setups.

I will try the Turnigy ESC and see how it performs using that. I pretty much have the batteries I need for 8S and 12S so I'll start with that.

To get a little scientific about it I have also ordered the 150A Eagle Tree eLogger with additional temp and rpm sensors.

Turnigy used to buy in Hobbywing ESC and sticked their name on it... So i would recommend u to buy the Hobbywing Platinum 120A HV ESC... this will give u truck load of power
