Want to reconfigure a 8mah 4s to a 6mah 4s -
09.20.2009, 04:11 PM
Help Please ?
I have (2) 4s 8kmah CrapsAmps packs I want to make into 4s 6mah packs for my buggy. I've removed 2 cells already and I'm confused about cell tab arrangment and wire placement for the balance wires etc.
If you have experience with doing this, or can supply me with a link that can help I greatly appreciate your posting.
Thank You

Sorry I didn't get to your PM earlier.
Anyway, unless 8Ah pack is configured as 4s4p 8Ah, and you removed two cells, you aren't gonna get 4s 6Ah. Chances are you have a 4s2p or 4s1p. If it's 4s2p, you can make a 4s1p, but it probably won't be good enough for much current-wise. If it's 4s1p, then removing a cell will make 3s 8Ah.

I believe those packs were made up of 4Ah cells in 4s2p configuration. If you remove 2 cells, you have 6 4Ah cells. If you need to stay 4s, then you can only use 4 cells a 4Ah. Other options would be 6s1p 4Ah or 3s2p 8Ah

You started with a 4S2P pack. Now you have a 3S2P Pack.
Thus, bdebde's post is correct.

Bondo, if that's what you want to do, let me say you are in for some work ahead of you! I had two 2s2p 8Ah packs and the tabs were so thin that simply desoldering them bent them enough to start tearing. Even the ones not soldered well tore easily.
If you still want to go ahead, you're gonna have to split all the cells apart. This means you will have to remove each 1s pairs, and then disassemble each 2p set until you have all 8 cells in front of you. Once you do that, let us know and we can go from there. But I honestly think you're gonna have problems with tab tearing.

Yeah, I understand all that now after some more reading and going buy what Linc suggested. I'm going to put it back together and sell it to buy a couple HC 4s 5Kmahs.
Thanks for your time and explaining, I thought it was a decent idea to save some $$ but I reckon not. Poop.
Any body in the market for a 4s 8000mah, I have 2 !!! Pm for price.
I was getting 45+minute runtime with a LST2 geared 64/18 with 7" tires with the packs. Never, ever got hot !
