Truggy tires - RC-Monster Forums

Over the past couple of wheels I have been looking for alternatives for my Losi 8ight truggy. It is easy enough to find the specific Proline tyres for truggies which are either the yellow or white dish based rims mounted or individually rims and tyres.

What alternatives do I have ? Some shops have said the proline 30 series will fit, others have pointed out HPI rims etc,,, some say the truggy tyres are a class of its own

Is there a easier way to figure this out apart from meassuring approx diameter, width and hex (17 mm) and physically going to a shop to work out if the size is broadly compatible.

I am not looking to race but want a collection of suitable tyres for bashing, straight speed runs etc.. and starting to dislike the dish wheels. I really like spoked wheels like the Proline wabash wheels or HPI Blast wheels.

I have just purchased Proline badlands MT tyres which I think is for the T-maxx and mounting it on Jconcepts Rullux rims..

Any help would be appreciated so I can order mail order.

This is confusing but I'll try to help.
The main thing to look for is the 17mm hub size, The standard Max sized wheel is 3.2". The Max sized tires have a 3.2" ID (Badlands), Imex and HPI Monster truck size tires are all 3.2". Imex also makes much larger tires but they are junk. The LRP,Rulux,JConcepts Truggy or 1/8 scale Truck wheels are all 3.7" and will need the appropiately sized tires as well. If confused with what is what just go the the Co's website and cross reference part #'s
Offset- Most companys offer standard(zero) and 1/2" offsets, personal preference for that,since you have a truggy the zero offset would most likely be best. Maybe speed tires you could go with the offset to handle better and be more stable ?
The Proline "VTR" tires and rims are all 4.0" and must be matched together also.

Yes it helps some what. As you correctly pointed out it is the ID that is the problem. There doesn't seem to be a consistency between brands. From what your saying is if I can find a wheels with 17mm hubs that have a ID of 3.2" I should be able to find plenty of MAXX tires.

However if I chose truggy wheels that have a ID of 3.7" then my tire choices are limited unless I 'stretch' the maxx tires over the wheels and have a lower profile?

1/8 buggy wheels seem to be so much more straight forward as they all appear to be same size.

Recently I purchased HIP blast wheels and stuck a set of 40 seriies Proline bow tires and theyl ook perfect. However the 40 series wheel looks silly on a truggy and is best on a Monster truck such as the Savage XL or similar sized truck with 17mm hexes

Now if I can live with the Losi Velocity dish rims life would be simple but I am starting to really dislike the bland appearance

I guess the standard buggy tires and wheels are all they need and to keep ROAR rules simpler ? Actually Proline does have a wider version of the buggy wheels (the V3) but they didn't seem to be very popular because they cut down the turning radius?

No problem Mohan, The velocity wheels can be dyed with "RIT" cloths dye for a little variety. It's very simple and straight forward. Do a search on YouTube for "how to".

I was shown that Proline Badlands MT tires stretched to fit over 3.7" wheels are a popular combination for truggies and Revos. They do end up low-profile like a racing tire, but have a good lug-type pattern for off-road bashing.

I'm in the same spot as you right now. I want to find a 3.7" tire that is for off-road bashing, a lug-type tire. But all the 3.7" truggy tires are pin-type for track racing.

There is a guy selling premounted tires on Ebay right now that are a Badlands clone on a 3.7" truggy wheel. The pattern is similar to a Badlands tire, but the lugs aren't as big. They are mentioned in another thread here in the truggy forum. I'm debating getting some of those to try out.

Do you have a link to that tire? This is exactly what I am looking for - Badland type lug tyres on a 3.7" ID wheel. I also like the Mulchers - great for grass etc..

Most likely, Suprasales has ben around for years, I've purchased many sets of tires myself. Not the best of qaulity but for the price they surely can't be beat.

Losi mounted Cubics are some of the best truggy tires out there.. they hook up on just about every surface.... you can get them in pairs off ebay for 17. + shipping. They are not the junk that supra sells... they are real losi tires/wheels premounted and all. They will combine shipping as well.. He (ebay guy) also has a few other styles of Losi wheels to choose from as well.. premounted etc. Just do an ebay search for mounted losi cubic.

Had a look - those dish wheels again..... I was looking at alternatives and found several wheels that are 17mm hex but most of them do not have the 1/2 offset.
I am going to buy some Losi offsets to go on the hexes so I can use regular wheels with 17mm hex, ID 3.2 or 3.7. Now to go find tires that fit these wheels. I have been told that LPR tires are not that easy to find..
