Money management software - best free one - 10.18.2009, 10:21 PM

Hey, anyone use any of the free money managment software? My oldest daughter is looking for one. I have an old copy of Quicken, but I dont think it works with Vista (its probably why I upgraded). She cant afford to buy a copy, so I'd like to know if any of the freeware's are worth using.

I would be really leery of putting my financial information on any type of "freeware". Maybe it's just me but freeware seems to always be infested with spyware.

Well, some of the best virus removing software is freeware, so I was thinking that there might be something similar for financial software.

I did see that Quicken online is free. I told her to try that and to NOT put her account numbers on it. I really like Quickens planning features - not sure about how Money worked (I heard Microsoft quit supporting Money recently...?).

My roommate uses this site: www.mint.com

He says it tracks, manages, etc. all his financial accounts. He likes it a lot, I haven't tried it myself.

You will still run into the same conundrum though of if you should enter in all your account info to the site. You need to for it to really work the best, but you have to decide if you feel secure doing so.

That's true, I am just a little more touchy when it comes to personal information.

Even when I use my CC in public places and the like I keep an eye on it at all times. A friend of my parents busted a kid taking pictures of their CC with his phone.
